Shots fired outside parliament - Please refrain from speculative and antagonistic posts

Jeez i wake up to read 5 dead 40 injured.
Much larger than i was previously reading about.
Hideous excuse for a human being.
This new " tactic" is so easy to replicate i do worry for the coming weeks.
Rip to those caught up in this nonsense just trying to enjoy a visit to London or going about their business.
The times I've walked over the bridge... Terrible.

I thought all police officers wore stab vests?

The only vital organ a stab vest protects is the heart, nothing more.

Lungs, kidneys, stomach, intestines, bladder etc are all fully 100% exposed.

In fact, looking at images of stab vests, they don't provide any protection to the heart either.

PM Theresa May said the attack was "sick and depraved" and struck at values of liberty, democracy and freedom of speech.

Granted she might have undisclosed information that this might be a group terrorist plot (say ISIS), otherwise I think this is a rather grandiose statement from the PM. After all, it still could just be one lunatic that went postal and wanted to go out with a bang and get on the TV in the process. None of this attack on western value notion at all.

Time will tell.

Well the daily mail (& others) have decided to splash his murderous mug right across its front pages tomorrow
The Guardian and Independent have decided to go with the exact photo I posted and concentrated on the heroism of Tobias and left the murderer off the front page, scum doesn't deserve the limelight imho
DM MO unfortunately. Peddling hate and encouraging division - doing the terrorists' work for them - is what pays Daily Mail wages.

Wise words from the widower of a victim of another lone-wolf extremist terrorist:

RIP to the innocent people :(

"Sadiq Khan: London mayor says terror attacks 'part and parcel' of living in a major city"

There is something wrong with that person.

And for the record what he said last year was

"Part and parcel of living in a great global city is you have to be prepared for these sorts of things, you have to be vigilant, you have to support the police doing an incredibly hard job, you have to support the security services,"

People should get facts right before trying to give the mayor ****

I thought all police officers wore stab vests?

He was a member of the Parliamentary and Diplomatic Protection. Bulletproof vest, but no stab vest:

Firearms routinely carried by DPG officers include the Glock 17 and Heckler & Koch MP5. They are also equipped with bulletproof vests and have the non-lethal Taser X26. Like every other conventional British police officer, they carry an ASP Telescopic Baton, Hiatt speedcuffs, CS gas and a radio.

Of course, if he was stabbed in the neck, a vest wouldn't help much anyway.

I know when he said it. But the silly person did say it. But good luck to people in London.

He did not say what you quoted.
"terror attacks 'part and parcel' of living in a major city" is very different to "Part and parcel of living in a great global city is you have to be prepared for these sorts of things, you have to be vigilant, you have to support the police doing an incredibly hard job, you have to support the security services,"
The two quotes have very different meanings.

You've actually read the whole thing he said?

If you have and don't realise where you went wrong, then I'm afraid you're probably not intelligent enough to be getting involved in this thread.
The only good thing about the sheer volume of logical fallacies in this thread is that they cancel each other out. Perhaps Deuse's complaint - that our mayor suggested we be prepared - could be put to Boge who thinks he knows better than all the world's security experts, and they can come back once they've agreed on the correct level of preparedness.

It's a shame when people bring this thread to their level by name calling. Back on topic.

I see the police have arrested people in connection with the London terror attack in Birmingham. Why am I not surprised.

Beaten to it

Just read that the attacker has been named on twitter, born and bred in Hackney is quoted, along with a line about he had a previous terror related conviction and had been known for 10 years.
Not giving any credibility to any of this but if this proves to be the case, I hope some top brass, who may have been in the loop, feel very awkward right now and are rightly asked some very difficult questions.....although the old line will no doubt be rolled out, the one including "lessons being learned" etc.
