Shots fired outside parliament - Please refrain from speculative and antagonistic posts

"Known to the police" is such a misleading term.. Maybe if they had significantly fewer people on the lists they could police them more effectively but it's clearly nonsense to believe we could ever properly keep a constant eye on everyone on the "list" there's probably not enough police officers to complete the task.

I think a pistol in the hands of the police officer that was stabbed to death may have saved his life though?

Possibly. But if he was approached from behind? Probably not.

I don't know the specifics.

Although I highly doubt the scumbag approached him advertising what he was going to do.

Ain't police that keep an eye on them a lot of the time - if you don't make the grade for certain roles you often get offered surveillance roles.

Waving a knife as he's running towards you is a fair indication i would have thought

Didnt the guy mow down a load of people and then get out of the car with a knife?

May have not narrated what he was about to do but i am sure the officer knew the guy was dangerous.

I imagine it all happened so quickly, at first the officer might have thought it was just a car accident before he could react to defend himself.

If he got anywhere near the crashed car before the man got out he was in danger. The US did tests about police/suspect distances and knife attacks, shows you even a gun wouldn't necessarily have saved him (if it wasn't drawn of course)

I said I don't know specifics. However what I do know is that this whole thing happened in less than a minute.

Maybe he hit a load of people, ran away from the car (possibly in a small crowd of people panicking, caught an officer off guard (or trying to figure out what the hell has just happened) and pulled the knife out last minute?

Even if he was brandishing a knife, would an officer notice? Tens of people have just been run down on a bridge metres away, it was probably pretty chaotic.

I think you need to go a read up on the news for a bit then come back to this thread, what exactly happened is already well documented

All I see is speculation about the smaller details.

2.40 car races over Westminster bridge leaving numerous injuries.

Man seen running away from car and entering new palace yard where he attacks two officers.

Seconds later he is challenged by a plain clothed officer who opens fire.

Ambulances arrive within 6 minutes.

I can't seem to find specifics on whether he approached the officers head on from behind, brandishing the knife, waiving it around, hiding it. Nor if he was shouting anything.

But more than happy to be pointed in the right direction.

I'm not saying you're wrong, I was just contesting the idea that if the officer was armed he would be alive at this moment in time.

I will never understand why religion is expected to treated with so much respect. Race, gender, sexuality? Absolutely. Religion? All a load of tosh which causes more harm than good.
