bit random, but...
wondering....

thinking of buying a metal folder from a machinery dealer

would need a car+trailer to collect it

as the seller, would you be more inclined to give a good price if the buyer turned up with the the trailer (obvious you intend to buy) looking to take it away that day

or better just going to view it, and picking it up another day?

cheers!

If you are pretty sure that you are going to buy it then having the trailer there ready to take it away should make the seller more inclined to give u a deal to get shot if it (they might just stick fast no matter what).

Otherwise just go have a look and try to use the cost of hiring the trailer as a bargaining tool but someone else may come along and take it.

Do they offer any sort of transportation?

never asked tbh

I found a listing on ebay for it, it's 'collect in person only'..... buy it now price is 20% more than the asking price they stated when I emailed the shop direct

so thinking there's some leeway!

can't you park it round the corner if you're concerned that dealer might see it as a good opportunity to keep the price high, seeing as you clearly want it? If you think it'll help your case at the time then you can tell him you'll take it away today etc.. you don't need to show your hand immediately necessarily

Park round corner, swagger in and offer a price. If he says no, then up it a tad and say you can have it out of here in half an hour.
the swagger is imperative, without the swagger you're dead in the water. If this fails at first then your swagger game is clearly way off so what you need to do is immediately leave, mid-sentence if you must, and then come back again at maximum swag. if you do this correctly he'll be offering you money to take it off him

If they sell through ebay, then there's around 10-15% to pay in fees. I would take that 20% off price as the starting point and try and get even more off.

Precisely. Swagger in as if you were so blessed that it impairs your quality of life and general mobility. Make him feel sorry for you, yet threatened that his wife may run away with you should you stick around any longer.

Do this correctly and you will no doubt be up one folding machine and one woman.

thanks all, parking round the corner seems a good idea

until he sees me as he's swaggering to the burger van just as I arrive!

will see what happens

cheers
