Hi all, I need to re tile my bathroom floor which is 2.7 m2. The tiles are currently over a board which i suspect will need replacing as some of the grout is missing & the board is probably damp.
Can you recommend a tile adhesive that is flexible and sets quick, which would be suitable to go over chipboard. How long before we could walk on the tiles ?

Cheers

As far as I'm concerned there's no such thing as a suitable tile adhesive for chipboard. Rip out and re-board with cement backer or WBP ply or you'll get more cracked grout and tiles in 3 months.

This ^^

Use a flexible bagged (not ready mixed) adhesive and follow the instructions to the letter. only rapidset i've ever used was by BAL and iirc it was 3 hours setting time to grout but be aware its not easy to work with, you need some serious planning as it starts to 'go off' quite quickly. Perhaps mix enough for 1m2 at a time?

As for grout I've yet to see a decent fast set one, they all go off far too quickly meaning you get a coarse and unsatisfactory finish. Far better off with a normal setting, anti mould grout and letting it set for a day (at least). If you rush it you'll just be doing it all again soon enough.

Thanks guys, a quick google of waiting times before you can walk on it seems to be about 12 hours minimum, would you agree with this.

I used a Mapei rapid set adhesive over chipboard and you could get away with walking in it after a few hours, just don't take the mick. Been in place 2 years and no cracking or any other sort of deterioration.

No I'm talking about re boarding & THEN tiling

In that case. Rip it out refit with No more Ply. Or use WBP (most people wrongly call it marine ply) Prime the underside. I would then install 10mm> Wedi Board then UFH but I'm going to assume your not heating the floor. I'd still use the Wedi board though. Then Tile using a BAL or Mapei Rapid set
