Do you think you are intelligent?

i'd be one of those people who has a high degree of intellegence and dedication, but only within a certain field, and moving outside of that field i fall down pretty quickly.

at least it makes it easy to pick careers- just follow the skillset i enjoy and am good at.

Not if the field of linguistics.:D

I consider myself to be above average intelligence.

Failed at school the first time round so I am having another go as a mature student studying chemical engineering. I won an academic prize last year so must be doing something right!

Having said that there are a lot of very clever kids on my course who are absolutely useless, like literally so clueless that they are unemployable. So if academic ability is not proof of being intelligent then I guess I don't know what is.

There is a big difference between intelligence and competence.

You can be highly intelligent and have a great iq score but also be completely incompetent.

I'm competent, but I don't think I'm intelligent.

People who are highly intelligent and competent are pretty rare, in my experience :p

Question: Who comes across as the most intelligent on this forum?

What happened to that legal-expert that used to post in GD or gave people law advice, he was pretty switched on.

Then there was that guy studying chemical science who used to post and was obvs very smart, forget his name, it alluded to what he did though.

Edit: First guy was called Hartley something?
Second guy was AlphaCentauri wasn't it?

I struggle to understand the measure of intelligence. On one hand, i self taught myself design, coding etc at a young age, pulled myself through a successful career and now run a business which builds clever tech for big companies.... on the other hand i couldnt get a decent grade at school and to this day get an almighty sore head whenever i attempt an IQ test before either giving up or getting an average score at best!

I never got on well at school. I just can't cope with being told what to do. On the other hand I love teaching myself new things and am always learning something or other. I didn't learn anything at school and therefore failed all of my exams. On the other hand since I've left school I've learnt loads of stuff ranging from history to computer programming.
