What is the Perfect Monitor

My perfect monitor or at least where we are at now in tech.:

4k
38"-43" size
OLED (prefer but would settle with VA or IPS or other)
Glossy (or a Very light matte coat; think philips 4065
Input lag - low less then 10 and a great pixel response
Great colors - and depth of contrast hence the OLED but some of the others are getting there.
No PWM of course

I run a korean knockoff 40" similar to the philips currently.
Philips recently came out with the 4037UW but the pixel response is really bad else I would have bought it already (still debating).

If you made a TV that could also sub-in as a monitor 43" OLED with low input lag etc ... Id seriously consider it. I assume thats why we have no oled monitors is because people think there would be no market for it. From what I read the new oled get down to a 21" ms input re lag? (or did I read that wrong).

Basically I want a monitor that is great for productivity and movie watching and regular use but where I can also play the occasional game no matter what it is fps or strategy.

This is something that I really would like to see!
 
5 year warranty. The price of monitors are in a place where anything less than a 5yr warranty is not worth it. Dell are alone in the market when it comes to warranty and service like this. You can get 5 year warranty on a TV why not a monitor?

A realistic request? How about a 32" 4K Freesync 2 monitor at a reasonable price?

Ideally more than 60Hz? But not a must have. Main thing is the above with proper QA done right with 5 years Dell level warranty to back it! At least offer us the option for this at an extra price. I would be happy to pay £100 on top to extend warranty to 5 year and have a monitor replaced next day like Dell does if the one I have breaks.

Now for what I would really want? The same as above, but with OLED :D

Oh and please give us a Glossy option! I recently got a LG monitor and it was so grainy due to thick matte coating it went right back.
 
We shouldn't really have to pay even more just go get acceptable warranty length + service though.... Especially not on monitors costing £800+ :o

I agree. But that does not seem to be the case at the moment. Plus the monitor I described should be a lot less than £800 in this day and age. Not buying a huge OLED display, I am asking for a 32" IPS display, as OLED clearly ain't happening :(

Edit: I paid around £550 for my 4K Dell P2715Q in 2014 and Dell have much better QA and CS vs LG. Completely different league.

Most of the good 4k IPS 32" monitors are around £800 and the upcoming LG 32" IPS 4k HDR (fake HDR at that) will be £900 iirc. But yes, they should be considerably cheaper than that!

In that case I will take a 27" one for much cheaper then. By the time a Freesync 2 monitor is out I will have had my 4K Dell for 3 years. In 3 years either price should be going down, or stay same and add HDR ala Freesync 2.

£800 for 32" 4K Freesync 2 is ridiculous imo. Daylight robbery. As you said, these HDR monitors are not even full proper HDR, so why would I pay silly money like that for one? Tech is meant to get cheaper and better with time. These monitor manufacturers think they can do the opposite. lol.

Yup it is a joke :( It's largely why I keep telling people that are willing to buy these £900+ monitors to get a TV instead if they care about IQ :p It does seem like a lot more people are taking notice of the rip of pricing as well as all the issues as I've never seen so many people on various forums buying TVs to use as a PC monitor instead of "monitors"....

Brexit didn't help at all either, monitors prices have sky rocketed since then.

I may consider that or just keep what I have if Freesync 2 stuff comes in at stupid prices.

So you know, there were 2 reasons for this thread;

1) idle curiosity
2) gives me some real good info to pass back to HQ

this is the perfect arena to discuss things like this - you never know who is watching lol

Indeed.

May I ask, do you guys have any Freesync 2 monitors coming out soon? Specifically 4K ones?

Also please do pass on to HQ, please give us the option for non thick matte coating on monitors, or a easy way to peel it off. It is so grainy that I do not understand why anyone would want it unless for business purposes.
 
Good Freesync support is a starting point, There's too many monitors using Freesync as a selling point when they only offer a very poor implementation of it, Thankfully it looks like AMD are stepping in to make sure vendors using Freesync as a selling point actually offer one that's going to give a good experience.

Am not very fussy so I be happy with just a

OLED 34" 21:9 3440x1440 144hz G-SYNC for around £500 that comes with a 5 year warranty which also covers screen burn/image retention..
 
Pretty happy with my 2560x1440p, 144Hz, G-Sync, TN - would be nice if there was a way to increase IQ without sacrificing response times and latency.

One thing I wouldn't mind is an easier way to plug sources into the display rather than messing about trying to get underneath it or rotated enough. A well thought out OSD is always a plus.
