Do you think you are intelligent?

Intelligence is overrated. Instead I'd say I'm shrewd especially with financial investments. Instead I pay for intelligent people to do the hard work (whilst making sure I always have a good understanding of their field waiting to catch them out because I'm no sucker!) :)

What's the point of having money if you can't hold a decent conversation about Keats down the pub?

His IQ is far too high for you to bother him with such trivial remarks. Leave him be. :p

No more or less than anyone out there. I've always had an excellent memory and that's given people the idea that I might be intelligent, but I wouldn't call myself smarter than anyone. Or rather, I'm smart enough to realize NOT to put myself out there as smart. If that makes sense.

What is "intelligence".

My memory is fantastic, so i can memorize books, things i have read or heard, so when interacting at various social gatherings people think i am smart for that reason, whatever topic you throw up i have facts, details, quotes etc. Knowledge does not equal intelligence, you are not smarter than me because you are a doctor etc, you only know more, and that situation is easily rectified.

Over years of online gaming especially lately into competitive gaming, it is clear to me that intelligence is simply a matter of processing power, the brain is a CPU, just like a computer CPU, some are faster and some are slower.

Games are puzzles, you need to consider so many variables before making a decision, from what i can observe, the vast majority (of the top 0.5%) of gamers can solve near equally most situations when discussed before or after matches when there are minutes to talk about it or even hours sometimes lol.

Very few people can do that within seconds during the match.

I've said it a couple of times on here but I think 'perceivable intelligence' is a combination of four things, listed below in probably decreasing relevance (the middle two being jointly weighted):

Raw intelligence - your computing / processing power.

Effort - how much you put in to realise the results of your raw intelligence.

Common sense - the ability to be decisive, wise and consciously avoid error.

Focus - the ability to not get distracted (this is more of a sub-conscious thing that undermines the previous two categories).

There is a guy at work that is pretty much a cyborg. He is just ridiculous - his memory is virtually photographic, he has the highest processing I know... and the stamina this man has, my god! My brain will turn to goo after about 12 hours of hard work but this guy just soldiers on with maximum productivity. I am not anywhere close to this guy in any of the above categories - he is just shockingly, awesomely clever.

As for myself, I find answering the question a bit (for lack of a better word) crass so I'll just say my greatest weakness is my tendancy to get so pre-occupied / carried away with my own thoughts that my brain just stops recording. I lose my wallet, keys and phone all the time (i.e around the house). Never an actual issue but it does make me sometimes question whether I'm actually just a moron :o

By contrast, my greatest strength, sometimes a curse, is my own social awareness combined with my social skillls. I'm very good at perceiving what others like / dislike and correctly interpreting even the most subtle body language / tone of voice. This makes it very easy for me to get on with others and, whilst it can never sound a like a good thing, it makes me extraordinarily good at manipulating people. Perhaps a rung or two down from "these aren't the droids you're looking for". It's a good job I'm a nice person... :p

I think i'm pretty average really - it depends what i'm doing as well. If it is super maths stuff, I struggle, if it is technical, I tend to be pretty good.

Still pretty dumb though, and I know it :p *Looks at meme bank*

I would say I am below average to average if measured in the way most people would rate "intelligence" however I have quite a good memory so a know a lot of facts about history and science for example which people can mistake for intelligence given the right circumstances. I suppose you could say I am good at blagging intelligence! lol

The one thing I am very good at though is figuring out problems and coming up with solutions which other people may not think of, I hate to use the term but I suppose you could call it "Thinking outside the Box" for lack of a better way of putting it.

The other thing I am good at is picking up new skill's and getting good at them quickly, much to the annoyance of my friends when that skill is a sport or game! lol

my common sense is on the borderline of a village idiot but i have good financial sense ,also struggle between left and right but my daughter does this and shes a scientist

Yes, although perversely I frequently suffer from impostor syndrome.

I suffer badly from this ... which does affect things for me at work etc ...

As for being sociable ... no and the suggestion earlier in the thread that being with sociable people improves this but personally I find it makes me even worse as I just shut down.

Probably average at best :(

Knew a guy at university who had a near idyllic memory. His brain just soaked up information. The last time I saw anything about him I couldn't even understand his job description :D It was sciency stuff :p

I have a very broad general knowledge, am witty, and do very well in anything involving logic, maths and reasoning.

I pick up things incredibly quickly and tend to self-study about anything that interests me.

Add to that common sense and good spacial awareness, and I'd say I'm above average, way above if the mouth-breathers I encounter during my daily commute constitute a modern average. :p

Ironically, I aced school and college, but couldn't be bothered with uni.

I'm bloody great me! [sic]

Time and time again, I've been proven to be less intelligent than I think I am.

That said, if the question is, "Do you think you're intelligent?" then everybody should answer "yes". Unless you can't get enough of daytime reality TV. Then you might possibly be clinically brain-dead.

Intellect staggers massively in areas of interest. For example, I (humbly) shame some very good so called IT people, but don't have a clue about horses. Yet this girl I sometimes work with blows me away with the amount of useless guff she knows about horses. Having said that, I probably talk useless guff to her.

But, looking at it another way, I think I would have the ability to quickly assimilate and understand that information about horse and put it into practice quicker than most.

I used to think Castiel was intelligent, but then I discovered he just copy and pasted from the internet.

No word of a lie, Sertraline was a ******* miracle drug for me. It completely got rid of my anxiety in a few weeks and despite being off it for a few months now it seems to have permanently fixed me. It's also seems to have the unexpected great side-effect of being able last ages in bed :D

No that's actually listed as an expected side effect on the box :p

FYI don't read the list of side effects :(

It gave me the ability to not give a **** :D
