Building 2 new PC's and I'm kind of stuck on GPU's.

There's seems to be a lot of Nvidia about, like loads.. but AMD seems to be a little quiet? Seen a couple of Fury X's cheap, are they still worth going for? Or 480's. Reason being, we want to try Ultra wide monitors and they happen to be freesync having never tried adaptive sync or whatever it is, I'd like too.

Am i best getting Nvidia cards 1070's or 980Ti's over 480's and stuff?

Are AMD planning a card refresh?
Seems loads was released in the past year!!

If it's like last year then there will be a further 2 month gap for 3rd party decent cooler cards. Ie end of July/August again.

Eh, the thread is has NVIDIA chatter, AMD bashing, and off topic stuff than anything else in it really.

AMD claimed VEGA is right around the corner, so if you're not in need of a GPU right now, you might as well wait and see what comes along.

No AMD bashing at all, I've loved all AMD cards I've had in the past, my 290x and Fury X were fantastic cards. I prefer them, personally.

From reading benchmarks it seems they still hold their own but nvidia seem to smash it with the 1070/1080 and totally missed Vega when doing some research the other night.

I'll probably buy a stop gap card, maybe a couple of 290x's until later in the year then.

Not you mate, that Vega thread.

It's most a circlejerk and memefest right now, with 0.1% Vega information. :P

Also Polaris refresh is due mid April along with the new Ryzen R5 launch, so could always look there for a stop gap card, or pickup a cheaper RX 480 or something.

Umm...Got a 290 Tri-X in my HTPC which I play games on, connected to my 60" 1080p TV. If I can sell my 290 for about £100 then get an GTX 1080 from the MM for about £300, if i put that money towards it.

Worth it?

No, brand new 1080's can be had for not much more than £400 after selling on the game code.

Thought you couldn't sell game codes anymore due to Nvidia locking them down?

You can sell them to existing 1060/70/80/Ti owners (but afaik can only redeem one per system even if they bought 2 for SLi).

Depends on your budget; AMD's Vega cards aren't going to be cheap, so if you're looking at spending around £200 then a used Fury/GTX 980 Ti (if you don't need freesync) would be your best bet (RX 480 and GTX 1060 are useless).

Well this is just a card to get them running, having spent out on the rest of the system, at the moment i cant afford to splash out on 1080's or something of the like. And I'll need to buy 2! So an older gen would be fine for now.
