Hi all I'm in the market for a card to replace my ancient and crippled 260gtx. Will be going into a 4ghz I7 with 6gb ram (soon upgrading to 16)
I've been considering a 4gb 980gtx from the mm, a 1060 6gb also from the mm or should i go with the recently dropped asus 480 8gb

Any thoughts/experience/opinions would be welcome

Either would be a huge jump from your current card, the only thing putting me off the 980 would be its 4Gb, 6Gb + is the future these days.

The RX 580 is just around the corner and rumoured to be around the £200 marker.
That's another option to consider, I believe mid April is the current estimate.

Thanks for the input guys. I went and pulled the trigger on the 480 from OCUK (once i figured out the forum free shipping part) shipped within 15 minutes of me placing my order? Not even a chance for me to ponder cancelling. I'm sure it'll be a mahoosive step up on the 260 and finally i'll be able to play overwatch and other dx12 titles

Good choice. I cant see 580 being same price as a 480 when the latter is still selling units. £250 maybe and less when 480's dry up.

I went for the Asus dual oc for £180. I've just been reading up on quite a few people having issues with this card-carrying i hope I'm not in for any trouble???? (not going to be overclocking it)

The thing that would put me off a 980 now is 4gb Vram though in terms of actual horsepower at least when both are overclocked the 980 is the faster card vs the 480

As for the Asus Dual RX480...

Been having no end of trouble with mine. I suggest checking out these threads as a lot of people are having the same random crashing issue all within the last few weeks...

I would RMA the damn thing but then it will have to be inspected and replaced which could take weeks and my Ryzen build has no iGPU

MST yes the CPU is 920k . Is that going to be a problem? If it's a case of bottleneck I'm not too bothered it's running at 4ghz and I'll be upgrading the motherboard CPU and ram with another overclocking bundle from ocuk (this ocuk bundle has lasted 8years and is still going strong!)
