Maths/aptitude questions help.

I would argue question 2 is rather poorly written. One has to assume by 3m they mean height rather than length.

On question 1. Why do you multiply the two percentages for men and the two for the women?
40% of the workers are men, of whom 30% go to night school. You need to multiply them to get the percentage of workers who go to night school. Imagine there are actually 100 people. 40% of them are men, so that's the first bit done. You then need to know how many of those men go to night school, so you do 30% of 40, which is 12. Then for the women, you can work out that 60% of the workers are women (100%-40%=60%) so then you do the same thing - 20% of 60 is 12. 12+12 is 24. Job done.

One is expected to assume it is 3m in height because nothing else makes sense, so I would argue question 2 is written fine.

It's still an assumption though. Whether it makes sense or not. It could be an incorrect assumption with the answer actually being e.

I'd pass you for writing both answers with justification for (e), but fail you for just (e).

I think that is overthinking it a bit - I don't see the last one as particularly long winded - can be solved as quickly as the others:

true, but it's the full in depth way of answering it and it'll work if you dont know the potential answers.

Firstly i would like to thank the few people who took the time to answer and explain the questions.

I just want to explain that i had already decided before creating this thread that this job isnt for me. I had already tried to answer the questions on my own but i just cant get my head around it.

I fail to see how an entry level It tech job needs this level of Maths. The salary is only 15k a year. a lot of you guys are making out that this is basic maths. I disagree. I have only done upto GCSE level maths which i would class as basic and never encountered anything to this level.

I asked as i was curious and wanted to better my own knowledge not to cheat my way into a job.

tbh that is all gcse level maths, although if it's been a while, and your field doesn't cover it then its understandable if you've forgotten.

I agree and would point out that 'in line with' is not helpful. The flagpole is a point not a line (would need two points). The only line is described by the shadow of the flagpole.

Remember that generally only people who can answer the questions will respond to the thread.

But can we assume that all the people who can answer the questions will respond in the thread ? Some will surely say, "Pfft, too easy." and move on.
