It's cyclone season again here in Australia, and Queensland has been hit pretty badly, with winds exceeding 130 kilometres per hour.
Some areas received almost 1 metre of rain within 48 hours. One of the largest rivers has already risen by 15 metres and shows no sign of stopping.
This image was taken from my friend's phone. She was trying to work out the best route to work:
Needless to say, she'll be staying home.
South East Queensland has been hit the hardest:
Supermarkets are running out of food:
More than 1,000 Queensland schools have been closed, and more than 40,000 people have been evacuated, including the entire population of two islands off the coast. At least 350 houses have been destroyed, and 90,000 people have no power to their homes. As the flooding continues southward, towns on the northern border of New South Wales are now being evacuated too.
