Hey all!!!

So a bit of a sour day today, recently ive noticed one of the panels changing colors, when I got the car originally there was a scratch at the back bumper on the side, looked like someone had walked past with something and caught it, nothing major but the dealer knew it was going to need sorting and it was. The repair appeared great quality and you couldn't tell there had been an issue.

However, coming out this side of winter, it seems the paint is aging very poorly. This picture shows it up, but in person its more evident.

Called up the dealer, who have very much dug their heels in and wont even give me the details of who they used for the repair.

Needless to say, my relationship with this (very well respected) dealer is heading quickly south, I don't take being messed around for very long, and they better start coughing over some details soon, otherwise it will be the nuclear option...

Surely if the dealer repaired the car then they guarantee the repair for a certain amount of time on behalf of whoever did the repair for them?

I can see why they wouldn't share with you who did the repair, as your complaint is with the dealership, not the repair company and its the dealer who you need to sort this with.

Escalate through the dealership to the dealer principle etc if you arent getting anywhere. What is the reason they have give for not resolving the issue?

"Paintwork doesnt have a warranty"

"Its over 12 months"

Which frankly is bull, any respectable body shop around here offers 3 years as a minimum, and some lifetime ownership warranties.

Ive taken it to one of the best places around here, and they spotted it instantly before I even pointed it out. Quoted £360 to respray the entire bumper colour matched to the other panels.

This is why I always use a known entity, will never use a dealer, will always go to the bodyshop directly. I'd take it to the DP, firm but clear in your dissatisfaction and if that fails escalate to social, manufacturing using words like 'halo car' and your upcoming 'other' purchases and then see how you go. Also put a post on PH to see if people on there know which body shop said dealer uses. Then approach that shop directly to get their view. You never know what the dealer told them to do.

Do you have any recommendations for places as you're in my general area?

The 2 places near me are colour correction redditch and bromsgrove body repairs.

I was put off BBR as the guy just seemed, uninterested. And I know color correction have done some excellent repairs on lower value cars of friends including mixing and matching some paint to a very faded 25 year old BMW that you couldn't tell it had a panel resprayed, but its always worth getting another opinion.

That's looking pretty naff there kindai. Often able to spot a slight mismatch between metal and plastic panels but that's just poor. Hope you get it sorted!

I have a guy who is a solicitor who I ran this past, he asked me a few questions about the purchase and the reply he sent back basically has them dead to rights.

Breach of Consumer Rights Act
Breach of contract
and as it was purchased partly on finance I can also go after them via section 75 of the Consumer Credit Act

Im going to give them to the end of next week to agree to make it right (eg pay for it to be fixed at my choice of bodyshop), otherwise the hellstorm they are going to get will cost them into the thousands.

Well the owner of the company rang me.

His belittling attitude made me want to punch my desk while talking to him... but he really shot himself in his foot when he said something along the lines of saying they didnt do a proper job because it would have cost too much.

Hes ringing me back tomorrow, where im going to rather bluntly put it to him do they plan to pay for it to be rectified or not.

This is why he is not telling you he did it as I suspect it was 'Dave the Spray'

www.shorade.co.uk are my go to bodyshop in Cannock.

Tell them after his admittance that they did a bad job you will get it rectified and expect him to cover the cost as you have lost confidence in his company based on his response.

Thanks, ive got a couple of other leads also, a guy having a front bumper respray on his GTR next week.

What costings have they given you on jobs before?

Expensive, but quality work is I find. I had my rear bumper, sills, wheels done and some plastic bits added and I think it was around 2.5K.

To be fair they also provide a terrible coffee.

That may be a deal breaker.

Will get a quote non the less, though am now thinking, do I go for a total respray, or, well bumper, bonnet and skirts to bring the car back to new.

A good body shop will just do the panels that need doing, which was my approach and you'll not know the difference. My car going in for 3 day details week after next which will deal with the swirl marks finally and then just the scuff on the carbon panel to address and she is factory new again.

Didn't do a proper job, it would have cost too much? Erm... not what you want to hear!

Quite.

Will be going after them for ~£7000 after writing the letter out and examining the entire purchase under a microscope.

Have them on:

Misrepresentation Act 1967
Consumer Rights Act 2015
Breach of Contract
Consumer Credit Act 1974 Section 75A

Gave them every opportunity to make things right, as I would for my customers, if I sub-contract any work out, if I am not happy with the result or quality of work I wont present it to my customers. To put it bluntly, the buck stops with me.

They on the other hand, don't give a **** and tried to take me for a mug and fob me off. I don't like burning bridges, but when I do, don't use matches, use a nuke.

Absolutely seething right now.

Probably a bit far from you but I can recommend a guy local to me (Market Drayton) who is absolutely fantastic. He isn't cheap, but that's a good thing where body work is concerned. He is a perfectionist.
