My dog just bit me on the wrist

Tried to take him for a walk but because he associates the smell of smoke with fireworks he nipped me on the wrist as I tried to put the lead on his collar. Dimwit in the house behind keeps lighting fires/burning things.

tried distracting/rewarding him with food whilst putting the lead on? you could try to make the smoke a good thing.
Good idea. Thanks. The dog is absolutely petrified of fireworks and has associated this memory to the smell of smoke . Unfortunately the guy at the house behind is burning things approximately four times a week in all kinds of weather until four in the morning, so we quite often get the smell of burning rubber creeping through the vents etc.

Surely you don't need to be told how strong a dogs sense of smell is right?
Ah ****

That was my stock "my dog....." forum post response. I've now read the OP and it's all about his dog smelling something so it almost looks like I was being serious instead of simply quoting a classic xmas cracker joke :o

Don't worry mate I got it :)

So you think that everyone else should cease doing things just because you have a mental dog?
On the contrary, dogs are just dogs, they are driven by instinct, not thought or mentality. It's humans who are mental for wanting to own and become emotionally attached to animals, then trying to talk with them, etc.

OP is typical pig-headed dog owner blaming other people for the poor behaviour of their hound.
Wut? Any animal when stressed will do what the op dog did.. It sounds like only a warning/stress nip, if it was anything dangerous the op would be in hospital.
