PC not turning off once shutting down w/ video

I don't like testing with a PSU that I feel could be going bad so brought a CX750 for £60 just for testing purposes, that way if my PSU does die I at least have a backup until I decide what to get next.
I have 2 PSU for exactly that reason - although I keep losing them to my kids as they get older... But i'm aware that other peoples expendable cash can vary greatly so I usually suggest nicking one from a friends build - but it has to be a pretty understanding friend :)

I used to have this exact problem with an ASUS Rampage II Extreme and an i7 920. It was a fault with the motherboard. RMA the motherboard.

Argh no, i have only just filled the loop too for the 3rd time! haha. I guess i will have to send a ticket to OCUK to start an RMA.

I have literally tried everything i can now without either returning the mobo or the PSU. I don't know anyone that would be willing to let me try their PSU either since i work all week so it will be a case of them losing their PSU for up to a week :(. So are we thinking its one of these 2? It's weird because i can overclock and game hours on end without the PSU failing so i would only assume that its the MOBO?

You can only make an educated guess with the information you have to hand. You've tried harder than most to isolate it with the tools you have to hand and I'm inclined to think MB if pushed.

It's time that's the frustrating factor if it's the wrong call...

Good luck with what ever you decide - and refresh the thread once you receive your return - be good to read the conclusion.

Yeah I agree it's also nice to spend that expendable income on upgrading parts rather than having plenty of spares :D

When I had this issue I came to exactly this point - Mobo or PSU? I ended up taking a guess and RMAed the PSU. Told the truth to Corsair (since they had much better RMA than ASUS back in 2009). They sent me a new one and told me to try it, if the fault was with the PSU, great, I could return the faulty one. If it wasn't, I was to return the new one. So the new PSU ended up not fixing the issue so I returned the new one back (they paid for all postage, thanks Corsair).

Then I RMAed the ASUS mobo and it took 74 days for me to get a new one :D. Lucky for you OcUK now gives you a new one in less than 48 hours.
