Do you get paid for untaken holiday?

Nope. My work forces the holidays on you at intervals during the year if you haven't taken enough. Not sure why, maybe they got told off for not making sure the staff are well rested enough.

All in the contract when you sign up, its your responsibility to book your holiday entitlement, if you have any left you loose it

Mine roll over. Up to 5 days is fine, with no prior approval required. Over that, at your manager's discretion you can roll over as many as you like.

That's fine but why do you lose it? Legalities? or just most companies choose not to pay if they are not legally obligated to? My GF's company (Shearings) for example pays the remainder of any untaken holidays at the end of the year, just goes into her pay packet as a lump sum.

At my work you can purchase additional holidays but it's then only those extra days which you could then sell back if you don't use em.

Mine disappear if not taken. That's not an issue though as I just take them :)

Always have a week in April and a week at Christmas. Then usually just pick 2 other randoms weeks evenishly spread out, one long weekend at one of the bank holidays and save the remaining 3 days for emergencies.

Company choice, they don't need to give you anything, if they do, consider it a perk of a decent employment arrangement.

they don't have to so most don't. its down to you to insure you book holiday and take it.
better companies/jobs will pay, let you carry it over etc as part of your benefits package.

Never understood why folk continue not to take their holiday entitlement, losing out on valuable times off.
Nor me, why wouldn't you take it off, who loves there jobs that much, they would rather be there than anywhere else.
All though I wish they would let me carry some over so you could have bigger holidays.

You have to take 4 weeks minimum. Up to the employer if they roll any over. If they haven't let you take holiday, they are at fault.

use it or lose it here. never had a job that did different.

as above though, why wouldn't you want to take time off of work?

Use it or lose it too. I get 25 a year. Last firm would let me take 5 over to the next year.

I only have 8 left for 2017

Nope don't get paid for untaken holiday - though at a manager's discretion a certain amount can be rolled over under certain circumstances.

I live in tourist town and quite a few business and even larger companies can find themselves short staffed and find it hard to let everyone have time off due to needing everyone during the holidays, that's why they choose to pay people for untaken holidays.
