Hi all,
Hoping you can help.
Down the side of my house between my house and the fence separating us between and neighbour (detached) we are fitting a lean-to shed. I told my neighbour about this as he said he was looking to do the same but it may overhang into my side (that wasn't going to happen anyway, as I never agreed to it). We've started to get ours built and knowing that the fence belongs to the neighbour, we are making a structure that is not even touching the fence. It's actually held in by the raised floor (bolted to the side of my house) and the roof and the noggins that are in the ground (Imagine a raised decking type situation).
He shouted out this morning that my carpenter was leaning on his fence and then shortly after apparantly heard a bang and now his fence is broken.
He knocked on my door and took me round for me to investigate and it seems the upright support has come away on one and the other has actually broken (a piece around 12 inches in size). When I asked him where the broken piece was, he stuttered and said he's unsure. Surely if it had just happened, the broken piece would be on the floor, no? Also the snap in this piece looks the same colour as the outside of the wood, meaning it looks as though it was done some time ago and he wants me to pay for it.
He was quite confrontational about it all and started arguing with my carpenter.
I looked from my side and the main post that holds the fence panel in, is twister and the fence panel has actually come away a bit on my side but again looks as though it was done quite some time ago.
It seems it was done and he's trying to get me to pay for it by putting the blame for a historic issue on me.
I've attached pictures from my side, but am hoping to see what people's thoughts are as we have to live next to him.

You can see from the pictures that there is no way our felted panel can even touch the fence as the posts protrude out our way before the fence panel can even make a connection.
Thanks.
