Ring Video Doorbell

Just tried changing the chime again now. No errors.

If anything I have negative lag now as the motion detection picks up people walking towards the door and the chime plays the motion detection sound. So the doorbell rings before people reach the door. I know when the post is delivered even though they don't them ring the doorbell. One of the advantages of the pro is that I can map out the approach to the front door as a motion zone so the road is ignored. I also have it set to ignore motion during night time hours. When the doorbell is pressed the chime and the apps (on multiple devices) start ringing straight away. I haven't yet had someone press the doorbell when I'm not on home wifi.

That's a useful feature, didn't realise you could do that.

I'd be interested in knowing how long it takes to ring when you're away from home. Hard to tell though I guess unless you arrange a friend to call you while they're pressing the button.

I've used it quite a few times with delivery men (I'm on the original and on battery, as seen in the video) and it generally pretty quick I think. Very useful to give them instruction.

I don't find some people don't seem to want to ring it. Our kebab delivery man always knocks for example. I don't know if they thing they get recorded if they press the button? I don't know if it's obvious to them it's actually a doorbell?

I think some have been burnt pushing doorbells that don't work so always default to a reliable knock.

The feature is called motion scheduling. This allows you to set rules with days of the week and start and end times on the quarter hour. You can have multiple rules.

I've switched off wifi on my phone so it's on data and did a test ring, the response was immediate. After answering it takes a couple of seconds for the video to show.

how exactly is this hard wired? What does it need? Power and ethernet?

Power only. They use wifi for data.

Yeh, the motion detection has already recorded them and I use the live view to check who it is and talk to them or ignore them from there.

thanks. my mate has one of these

seems like a really cool gadget but I would worry about who steals it

I got CCTV for that :)

It's not particularly easy to get off the door. They'll have to rip the door to bits to do it I think. Well, unless they buy one themselves and get the propitiatory screw driver specifically for the job.

Even then, they'll need to do it in a mask as the footage will be in the cloud of them nicking it. I think also Ring simply send you a new one too as the old one can be rendered useless as it needs to go through their servers anyway (but I could be wrong here).

Yes Ring will replace it if it's stolen, and then blacklist the old device.

I had a Ring Stick up Camera which fell out of the bracket after a squirrel pushed it down then off (you see the camera moving and then it running off in the last video before it fell down!) and it broke the camera. They replaced it without question.

I got a Ring Pro today, wife found it in an 'open-box' store. Got it all fitted and it doesn't power on. Spent all evening on the live chat with their support and it sounds like the unit is faulty. They've said to leave it on to see if it comes back to life overnight and if it doesn't, they'll send out a new one. It didn't have any security screws in the box either so hopefully there aren't any chancers going by tonight, although saying that my front door was left unlocked Sunday - Wednesday so it should be alright!
