Ring Video Doorbell

I got a Ring Pro today, wife found it in an 'open-box' store. Got it all fitted and it doesn't power on. Spent all evening on the live chat with their support and it sounds like the unit is faulty. They've said to leave it on to see if it comes back to life overnight and if it doesn't, they'll send out a new one. It didn't have any security screws in the box either so hopefully there aren't any chancers going by tonight, although saying that my front door was left unlocked Sunday - Wednesday so it should be alright!
Leaving it on won't do any good, if it's not connected to your wifi it won't update or anything. Does it talk when you connect it to the power when the white light is spinning? How is is being powered, what kind of voltage do you get from your doorbell transformer/wiring?

That's what I thought but I was just going through the motions with their support. It was getting all the power it needed (~20v). No lights on the front or anything.

I've been on with support this morning and it's fixed. I had to unplug the white box in the Power Kit, this made the doorbell turn on, then plugged it back in and got it set up.

I guess I missed the part where you had to have the breaker on when you wired up the doorbell then turn it off when you hook up the Power Kit. I assumed that you'd need to have it off for the entire process.

Ive got a Ring door bell, have to say its been awesome and never had any problem with it really. Only issue was when i changed router and ssid but that wasnt the Rings fault.

I see argos is selling the V1+chime cheap now. I'm thinking of buying the Ring Video Doorbell 2
as it's got 1080p video and a Quick-Release Rechargable Battery.

edit=Ring Video Doorbell 2 and Chime Bundle at argos £189.

Really? Sometimes I dont hear the door in my office so for me very handy. You can also give access to a relative or even have a chat with the delivery driver. To me it has so far been superb.
Ah right it isn't for burglar deterrent so much then, I thought that was the market it was targeted towards, I can see why it can be handy for couriers and the like.

It's both. As I said above, come and knock, it makes no difference, it's not reliant on you pressing the doorbell.

How are people getting on with this? I'm thinking about purchasing one but would be useless if it had such a delay

Nest are releasing their own one in Q1 2018. If it looks any good then I will purchase one after a unwelcome experience this week.

Hi. Some info on ring 2 doorbell please. First one was DOA now got 2nd one installed but sound quality is awful. Is the speaker and mic on at the same time or is it one or the other.
My issue is that I speak into my phone to someone at the door, the sound comes out of the speaker and is picked up by the mic. My own voice comes back to me at the phone and is picked up by the phone mic while I am still speaking and so it goes round so that all that is heard is rubbish.
My expectation would be it's one way or the other otherwise everyone would have this issue?
Is this another faulty unit or that's how it is? Should I try a 3rd one or just give up ??

it's a crappy gimmicky product. get rid of it.

Not sure that answers my question about the mic and speaker and if it's both ways on all the time, but thanks for the honest opinion :-)
Is there something that does the same kind of functionality but works ?

Thanks for the reply, so can you confirm that when you speak from your phone the mic In the bell does not pick up what is coming from the speaker?
It sounds like the mic gain is turned way up even when no one is speaking.
As you can imagine my voice coming back is picked up by the phone mic and the result is just a mash up. I would think that there should be control over this like when the owner is speaking the mic at the bell would be off - is this the case ???
If sound quality was fixed everything else seems to work well.

Not had the problems you've experienced, I did have some issues (documented in this thread!) but I'm really happy with my Ring doorbells now. I'm often in other countries on business and it's great to be able to answer the doorbell and tell people where to leave parcels or to say I'm not interested in trees being cut down.
