Best way to buy a small home in the UK ? (I'm overseas)

North East England, not far from the coast, not expensive (relative to the South East), easy going people. £120k will buy a decent small-ish house requiring minimum maintenance. It's a shame she can't reside permanently in the US though, I mean it's not like she'll be a burden on the State with no benefit entitlements and not fighting Americans for jobs.

Bit of a curve ball but what about a nice caravan on a park somewhere? Cheap as chips for 6 months of the year. No extra bills like council tax. Just to site fee and what ever had and leccy she uses while over here.

I don't think that's going to work unfortunately. Never been a fan of renting. Besides she'd probably have to pay for a yr and only use it for 6months.

She's going to have to rent for a while: buying a house takes a considerable time. And 6 month tenancies are the norm.

ey up butt, if you want some crackin' property, swansea's lush pal, we'll get her down by the bay in no time. My mams place went for 130k, that was on tyn y bonau road, big house, big garden, parking for your caravan - win.

It's gone now though, but you get the picture innit son? Wales mun.

Rather than make her move, could you use the £120K to buy out her siblings' shares of your grandmother's house? Or vary the will so that their shares in the house only go to them on her death?

^^^ this

If the sibling's share is worth more than 120k then presumably your mum would have enough from the sale too to buy her own place, if it isn't then why not buy them out?

That would have been my suggestion too, well, more a park home with a good sense of community, but I think he wants a profit at the end of it.

not my business but a update would be good.

not saying it in a snotty way. just being nosey haha

Estate agent is over today in France to see how much they can sell my grandmothers home for... They have to sell it within 6months otherwise they'll have to pay extra duties or something ? not exactly sure, will find out tomorrow. But there's a lot of siblings, so whatever it sells for will only go towards savings for my mum to live on, and the budget for the home is still going to be 120k
