I never knew Toyota & Peugeot & Citroën were the same company...:o

Specially never expected Toyota to be the same...
Toyota Peugeot Citroën Automobile Czech (TPCA) is an automobile manufacturing company in Kolín, Czech Republic. It is a joint venture between Toyota Motor Corporation and PSA Peugeot Citroën. It manufactures Toyota, Peugeot and Citroën models in the Czech Republic for sale in Europe.

The company produces three cars that are, in essence, the same but badge engineered: the Citroën C1, Peugeot 107 and Toyota Aygo. These cars share the vast majority of parts with only small cosmetic alterations.

They are not the same company, they just have a joint venture for the production of the Aygo/C1 and 107. This has been the case for about 11 years.

From the quote i understand that the three similar models are just an example and all ranges are produced, no?

I guess all cars manufacturers are using each others parts somewhere down the line...

Sure I read somewhere that ford & Mazda share a lot of parts and the 5 pot engine ford used in some of it older ST models was meant be a Volvo engine if I remember right..

And I think the 2.3 engine in the new Focus RS & 2.3 mustang is a modded Mazda 3 MPS 2.3 engine..

Ford owned up to a third of Mazda during the 1990s and all of Volvo up until 2010...

Also the 2.3 EcoBoost is derived from the 2.0 EcoBoost which only shares the engine block of the Mazda L series engine. It's almost entirely Ford otherwise.

Lots of companies from all sectors had joint ventures in Eastern Europe (and still do) to lower the risks involved with operating out there.

OP: How did you not notice that the original Aygo, 107 and C1 looked identical? :p

Spoiler Alert: PSA Just bought Opel from GM

Peugeot and Citroën are part of the same group but they are not the same company.
They share many parts just like all the different manufacturers who are part of General Motors.

Sort of. Peugeot own 100% of Citroen (have done since the 70s) and they are pretty well integrated so for all intents and purposes they are multiple brands of the same company (PSA). I'd say they were far more integrated than say Holden and Opel who dont really share all that much.

Interesting that you bring up GM, given that Opel/Vauxhall will be part of PSA by the end of the year. I understand that O/V will be run as a separate company but there will be sharing of things such as platforms, purchasing and administrative functions.

Some new Mercs (A-Class I think) have the Renault diesel in them too. There's very few cars out there now that aren't a joint venture of some sort.

Toyota is has done a few joint ventures with other manufacturers. But their cars are otherwise nothing like Peugeot and Citroen, they are far superior in build quality.
