Does anyone regret buying MacBook?

Hi guys, just wondering if there are folks who've bought a MacBook (non-pro, the one with no fan and only a single USB-C port) and have regretted it?

Basically I want a lightweight Mac laptop, and I reckon fanless is the way to go. The latest generation MacBook Pro 13" is the same price, and although you get a *lot* more bang for buck in the CPU and SSD speed departments, it also weighs more, is thicker and bigger, and has a fan.

So, just wondering whether anyone has feedback about day to day usage of the 2016 MacBook for light usage (web, the odd Word/Excel, that sort of thing).

Cheers guys!

I've got the pro model and don't really have any portability issues with it - granted it is bulkier than a tablet or the non-pro model but it is still pretty slim and portable

It's fine for day to day, but it does get a bit slow if you start running a lot of tasks.

For example if I'm partitioning the HDD for bootcamp then it becomes very unresponsive, same if I'm browsing 30MB+ CR2 files.

But for day to day internet browsing, emails, word documents it's perfectly fine, just don't expect it to set any speed records on heavier duties.

It actually frustrates me so much from time to time that I'm considering the 13" Pro to replace it.

Day to Day I find mine great, especially how lightweight and portable it is. I have the original 12" MacBook which has the slower processor and its perfect for general office and web browsing tasks. I also spin up the odd virtual machine for testing on there.

Thanks for the feedback! Sounds like the non-pro is the way to go for me.

I saw some disk benchmarks the other day, and although the MB is no slouch, the new MBP is so insanely fast -- like 3x the speed. Soooooo annoying to have to make these decisions! Maybe I wait a few more weeks in case there's a MB bump...

My lad bought a current model but pre touch bar 13" Pro and yes, it's faster than my 12" MB but I wouldn't swap. It just feels massive and chunky when I pick it up compared to mine.

Thanks! Now I just need to wait for the 256GB model to pop up on the refurb store...

Mine is the m7 256GB version and I got it from the refurb store - When I bought it, all versions and colours were available so hopefully the model you want will drop back in again soon.

Ooh I didn't even know there was an m7 256GB model. That's great news!

The m5 512GB version is showing on there now. General opinion does actually seem to be that the m5 is the sweetest CPU to go for out of the three options.

Yeah I'm waiting for a 256GB version. I just don't need the extra space, and Apple charges almost £200 for it.

I eventually found that my M5/512Gb 2016 unit just wasn't powerful enough and was becoming a little frustrating. Replaced it with a 2016-non Touchbar 13" unit. A bit heavier, but it's a lot nicer to use.

Mine's the same model, once my new job situation changes I'll be getting the 13" Pro but I want the touchbar, just because. :)

What sort of things were you finding frustrating? Were you using it as your main computer?

No, travel mate. So photography when travelling (I travel a fair bit), and work stuff/meetings.

Loved the form-factor, performance not so much. Bear in mind for work I do a lot of media type stuff - voice & video - and the unit struggled a bit with it.

Was it terrible? Absolutely not.

Ah OK, "media stuff" is always going to be super demanding on any computer. The 13" MBP has like 3x the disk throughput of the MB, so I'd imagine it would make a massive difference.
