Just wanted to share this since it seems like it's rare it happens :)

Forgot my work phone on the train this morning. Called it once, but no answer. Had a chat with the train staff, who was quite helpful. He called the staff at one of the later platforms to see if he could take a look on the train. Unfortunately, the other staff got there after the train had left the platform so couldn't. The staff member then managed to get the phone number of the guard on the train and called him. The guard said he would check and call back. Nothing eventually came of this, but I was surprised at the staff member going to all of this effort to check, rather than just saying he'd take my details and let me know if anyone turned it in (though eventually that's what happened since the guard hadn't called back :p).

Anyway, on the way out, thought i'd ring the phone again, and this time someone picked up. He was really nice and turned out he was based at my destination stop, so offered to meet me later and hand me the phone. Texted me his own number as well and actually went out of his way from the station to meet me and hand the phone.

Was surprised since I thought a phone especially would disappear pretty quick, but very pleased not just with the outcome but by how helpful everyone was, so thought I would share :)

Good result! :)

What phone is it? IF it's apple or android and you actually use the phone (ie are signed in to the respective app stores) then finding a lost phone that has signal and is powered on is relatively easy for future reference :)

It all comes down to who finds your phone. The majority of people are decent however when you leave something/lose it it's generally the unscrupulous types who find them. As normal decent folk are too busy with their own stuff / getting to work that they don't notice or just don't bother and think someone else will hand it in.

There is still a few good foke,

I had similar story few years ago, phone fell out my pocket while on route to city center pissup at xmas a few years ago, it was the trains last stop before it goes back on itself from the way it come, i did not notice the phone had gone i walked of the train and walked a minute or so by this time the train had gone.

There was an emergency button intercom on the platform so i used it and i explained what had happened, they said they will speak to someone on the train and will get back to me at this time i thought it has gone for good, 10 mins later they got back to me on the intercom and said someone had handed the phone in and they will exchange the phone over to an incoming train.

15 odd minutes later the train turned up and this lad handed it to me never thought it would happen but it did :)

My kid left his iPad in the back of a rental car once.. Got home and rec'd a call from a lady a few hrs later saying have you forgotten something ? Bought her a box of chocolates and sent my kid to the kiosk to say thanks.

i once found a iphone 5 i think it was on a bus on my way into town, was looking at the photos on it and recognized a barmaid in one of them..
went into pub the next day and asked if anyone has lost a phone and a young blonde barmaid had who had served my in the past said yes me, she was made up and got me a free pint. win win:)

No, not Windows phone :p Android. HTC M8, so a couple of years old now, so maybe that's why :D

Good call re. the finding phone feature. Honestly didn't even cross my mind. Maybe because it was a work phone so was thinking about telling security to wipe it remotely and thinking about how to get a new one, lol.

I did forget a bottle of whisky on the tube a couple of years back. That I didn't get back...

When I was in college.. 17 years ago, I left my phone on the bus, I sat at the back and you know the sort that sit back there, however the phone was handed to the bus driver who deposited it at the local depot in town where I could pick it up.

I did the same for someone years ago and they barely said thank you after I had gone out of my way to get it back to them. Plenty of decent people about and plenty of *****. You just got to hope you get the right one when you lose something.

I did exactly that about 6 weeks back. Found iphone outside local chippy, it was not in the best condition but it might mean the world to someone, you never know what memories could be stored on there. Obviously it was locked but there was a partial txt message on the screen from an 'abbie', being an iPhone I simply said "siri, call abbie"...a girl answered, to which I explained the situation to her, she shouted out to her mother "it's one of his mates messing about" and hung up !
Then I said "siri, call home"..a lady answered and hung up whilst I was explaining !

At this point I am thinking stuff it, I shall just bin it. At that moment another message came through from "Ant"...I thought ok, last chance. I called him and pretty much from the off told him in no uncertain terms that I now did not give two hoots whether the owner got his phone back or not, he then said it was his mates and he was in the pub with him, obviously I had him describe the phone which he did perfectly. So as I was on my way home I made the half mile detour to meet him, where he was extremely happy and tried to give me £20, I declined as I really didn't do it for reward but he insisted and shoved it down my coat. Would like to think that karma would look out for me, should I ever be so unfortunate as to lose mine. More likely to end up in CEX knowing my luck though :p

Similar thing happened to a mate of mine years ago where he found a massive wallet full of cash on the back of a bus (a good few hundred he suspected) - instead of handing it to the bus driver he actually handed it to the manager of the local bus station straight afterwards, which I suppose was a good thing as they treated it seriously and got him to fill out some sort of lost & found report incase it could be the case of a stolen / recovered theft one way or another etc.

Fast forward to a few days later he received a thank you letter from what appeared to be from the original owner of the wallet, complete with £40 enclosed :)

I also had an occurrence a few years ago when waiting to use a cash machine and some lady in front of me walked off without taking the cash - there was at least £100 there and she was in a hurry to get to somewhere else but I managed to catch up with her, she was ever so thankful and was about in tears. You just never know, it could have been her bill money or family food shop etc.

Liam.

I lost my my phone last year in the standing area of a sold out concert in the NEC, phoned it and collected it from a staff member 5 minutes after the show. Still have no idea how it made it out so quickly and intact.

I found one on a bench early morning in the city centre, was years ago now. I just checked who had been texting and text them saying i'd found it. Was some uni students, hung around in town on my way home to hand it back.

She wasn't fit, Gutted lol

Still was my good deed for the week.
