Seems like the neighbours are converting their loft. Been getting hammering and drilling over the past week at varying times in the day, even at 9am on a Saturday which ruined the lie in :(

I'm also finding that while they are in the loft room, I can hear their conversations and I think they also put a TV in there which I can hear.

Is there anything I can actually do about this? The insulation between the two roof spaces seems to be non existent so the noise is just finding it's way down through the ceiling.

I haven't spoken to them about it yet but I'll have no choice if it continues.

Perhaps 9am isn't 'early', but I think it's still quite inconsiderate to be doing masonry drilling at that time. Especially when it's only a few feet from you.

If it was 3am on a Tuesday morning I could understand, but come on!, 9am on a Saturday morning is being 'inconsiderate'? Get a grip!..

You really are underestimating the noise level. I cannot hear my own speakers over it. The whole wall and floor vibrates with it. I just thought it was unreasonable.

Dude, if it's that bad just pop around and have a word. If you have a reasonable relationship with the neighbours you can easily sort it.

It might be a little inconsiderate, but isn't really unreasonable.

It's a normal working day start time - like in the office at your desk rather than alarm ringing time.

10am, say, does seem rather late to be starting a day of home improvement.

normal working day is around 8am.
go and have a word with them but if your a bit of a gimp and they know this then be prepared for more noise.

I would have a friendly word with them. I'm surprised they didn't have a chat with you about it before they started, just to let you know there might be some noise/disruption, but people don't seem to like talking to each other any more.

If they are turning the loft in to useable space you may want to inform them of the noise transfer. Also look in to information on party walls, and if they have any requirement to put some insulation in to limit noise issues.

If I were them I would have popped round and apologised in advance but 9am is unfortunately considered acceptable. I know any excess noise at anytime is annoying but try and be patient! You don't want to fall out over it!

I would maybe say something about the noise transfer though, but tactfully, something along the lines of I'm not sure if you're aware but we can hear everything you say and do through the walls so maybe you might want to insulate it a bit or you'll end up having to put up with my singing, nobody should have to suffer that! Something along those lines. :)

Working hours for construction varies by local authority but as a guideline it is often:
Monday to Friday 8am to 6pm, excluding bank holidays. Saturdays 8am to 1pm.

I would suggest having a friendly word though.

Just wait til they have finished and assess it then - they might be planning to put some insulation up or might just have a tv up there for entertainment whilst they work on it. 9am isnt early and I doubt it'll last long.

Surely it won't be forever, And like others said just have a word and see how much longer its going to take if its like months then try work an agreement on times?
