Removed my previous thread as it was a bit too specific.

I'm going to be spending between £4,000 and £4,500 in the next few weeks to replace my old 407.

Ideally I want an automatic that'll fit four full sized people sensibly and won't break the bank to run and fuel. Climate control is essential (I like to be able to set it and forget it). According to the trip computer on the 407 I normally average in the low 40s and in the 50s when doing motorway runs at 70-75mph indicated. I need to keep to that mileage or if possible, improve on it. My last three cars have all been diesel but it's not essential that I keep to that.

If I use the car to commute, I'll be looking at up to 60 miles (round trip) during the day. Initially I was thinking something like a 320d or 325d but have been put off that by a comment in here and some further online investigation I've been doing.

I'll probably look to buying from a dealer as they'll at least offer me something for my 407. It's not worth much (175k miles) and I don't think it's worth the bother of selling privately.

Any suggestions please?

Thanks.

Definitely Mondeo. You don't strike me as someone who wants flash / bling, just a nice reliable, affordable place to be and carry everything / everyone you need, and a Mondeo is pretty much at the top of that tree, although a Mazda 6 is also a good shout. Ze Chermans are simply too finnicky to maintain cheaply.

What about an Exeo? They're completely forgotten about and therefore dirt cheap now.

Accord would be a decent buy but you'd want the revised shape which seems just out of budget.

Failing all that Mondeo sounds fine or either an insignia or Mazda 6
