Looking to change my old mk4 golf tdi for something newer and slightly more refined!

I've been looking at 330d coupes for a while and more recently 335d, M3, RS6 but unsure what other cars to consider? I've seen the threads on diesel cars, is a scrapage scheme likely to happen? Should I still be considering diesels if I plan to keep for 3-4 years?

Ideally around £10,000 but 15 max.
Can only have 1 car so no split options.
I prefer diesel but if something I really liked was only in petrol I wouldn't be too put off.
I'd like something that a half decent MPG.

Unsure what to look at in Mercedes and ruled out an XF/Jag due to the size.

You'd prefer diesel but you've considered an RS6?

Are you really sure you understand some of the costs involved in this shortlist?

I am, but at the same time I'm really undecided I keep throwing around different ideas.

I'm more inclined to stick with a 330/335d but don't want to miss out on another option I may prefer!

rs6 and 330d is a completely different kind of car. Why are you inclined on getting a diesel? do you do a lot of miles?

I don't really do a huge amount of miles but at the same time if I was to do a trip somewhere I wouldn't want it to cost massive amounts in fuel. I know I'm asking the unreasonable with an RS6 or similar.

You have no idea what you are talking about. I can't even add to this thread, you want to buy a more expensive worse fueled car because you'll save £1.24 if you do a long journey but at the same time are considering a car which can cost £1500 in consumables in a year.

What?

Hey guys I am interested in a new shirt, I like that Asda do a premium shirt for £4.50 that are easy iron but have you seen the new Versace's silk ones?

Looks like I should maybe start again and re word this thread.

Mods please delete.

Don't give up but it is pretty hard to understand what you want.

Running a 330/35d is a far cry from an M3/RS6.

If you want decent affordable performance then the 3xx is a good if not the best choice in the diesel bracket. Buying the others in budget is doable but you could spend it again in a couple of years on running them. The RS6 can bankrupt the best of us.

then you don't need a diesel :) get a simple hot hatch and it'll do everything. Get a golf gti or a 330i bmw etc.. bmw's I6 engines will return decent(35-40mph) on a motorway run) and turbo'd i4s will do the same.

RS6 will bankrupt you if you're concerned about fuel in on odd motorway run that you do.

I passingly thought the op should just lease a clubsport or rs or something for awhile rather than blow 15 grand on something they didn't really seem to want.

It will still be low revving and sluggish compared to a sporty petrol engine :/

(and still sound like a tractor)

This is the second thread you've tried to derail with uninformed drivel about diesels, I think it's quite obvious that you've never driven a decent (300+Bhp 6 cylinder twin turbo) diesel...they do actually sound fairly decent, certainly better than most 4 pot turbo petrols and rev reasonably freely just start lower down the range...certainly can have plenty of fun with them....

That being said if you don't do huge miles get a 335i over a 335d, you'll get more for your money :)

Poverty fuel diesel apologist spotted.
