So essentially I got back from a short holiday and it turns out I have a half borther (7 years older) on my Father's side.

I'm not sure what to think.

On one hand I'm cautious as to why is he searching now, the other is, ** Fully star swear words - EVH ** I've had a brother my whole life and not known!

Has anyone had a similar situation?

A bit personal but my head is all over the place.

not been in that situation but I'd look at it as a positive :)

presumably as you know then he's been in contact with either you or your father?

Your dad knew all along, the half brother just forced his hand. Embrace it and look upon it as a new found friend (and more competition for your inheritance ;)).

tbh who cares?

it's a stranger who shares some DNA with you, just like everyone else on the planet

I know I have 2 half brothers and 2 half sisters. I don't have even the slightest desire to know anymore than that :p

Don't feel obliged to do anything you don't want to do.

This happened to me about 9 or 10 years ago, he lives over in the US, would love to meet him and his family at some point, dont really have time or money to make the trip at the moment, but i think when i eventually leave the forces its something i'd love to do, to be fair i dont even know if he'd want that but i guess thats something to talk about.
At the time i never really gave it much thought, but i guess with having so much family spread over the UK and all over the world from europe to Aus to the US i suppose it just wasnt a huge shock to me.
Need to make a trip to Aus/NZ to see my downunder family as well.
