980Ti SLI or 1080Ti

SLI is not dead if you play the right games :)

Know what your saying but to me that ain't right, there shouldn't be a right game. It's very hot and miss. I went from 670 sli to a Titan black sli and now I'm on a single 1080 and i wont be going sli again.

Sorry op went a bit off topic, but yeah get the 1080ti.

So what your saying is it's not supported well enough. Yeah, I knew that already, and I play a lot of the big titles too. After trying it with two 980's it's one card for me from now on until there's big changes with multi GPU's.

Vote the best 1080Ti you can get.

So the answer is spend at least £700 where £300 will create the same result. I never have problems with SLI where it works and where it doesn't I can't see being worth £400.
Andi.

If you read the responses from people who have actually tried SLI recently then you'll see what the majority of people are advising. If it's a cash issue then just buy the second hand 980ti and give it a try.

You can always sell both of them on when the heat/noise/disappointment gets too much.

I'm not having SLI issues with recent games, where it is supported, most games I've played do support it still.

I'm not sure where the SLI hatred stems from or which games it allegedly affects. I still believe some people expect things to be too easy, PC gaming never has been and probably never will. If you can't get t0 grips with it get a console.
Andi.

Important words highlighted for you.

Then it works ok for you, but don't make a childish comment towards people who have obviously had more experience and enough experience to see the bigger picture. If you are either unlucky or lucky enough to not see the micro stutters, play the selection of games it works ok with instead of making things worse with either instablity or just not supported at all then fine, but a lot of people have tried it and seen the support just isn't where it should be after years.

I have a big library of PC games and I was much happier when I went to a single 980Ti after having two 980's. It isn't always about the FPS.

Why?
Andi.

1. Not all games were supported, Those that worked were great, But the others it was pointless
2. The amount of heat it generates was not worth the boost (overclocked etc)
3. If he go's VR then SLI is pointless yet again (i VR a lot)

I felt it just was not worth the "Hit and Miss" performance boost, added with heat and noise, I feel i will never go back to Sli now, Too many issues not enough gains!.
The 980 tis were not the first sli systems ive had, I just thought it would have improved. I was wrong!.

I thought most comments here were childish, just joining in the fun.
How does one persons happiness help.
"Those that worked were great"
Heat can be controlled.
Who said anything about VR.
Andi.

Just changed from a pair of Asus 980 Ti's to a EVGA 1080ti FE under water, definite improvement, you never will get 100% scaling in games, or if you manage to get close to that then you got lucky, the majority of games are now far smoother with a single card, Wildlands is amazing @ 3440x1440 with a 1080ti, Gsync for me at least seems much smoother with a single card too, not that it was bad sli, but you could feel the micro stutter occasionally.

Agreed. I've never been particularly sensitive to microstutter but the last few months with my 1080's in SLi + X34 were shocking imo. Single powerful card for me only from now on, even if I have to lower settings a little!!

List of games I bought on launch with poor/no support that made me want to ditch 980ti SLI (still haven't because Seahawks aren't in stock yet!)

DOOM
Dishonored 2
Titanfall 2
Resident Evil 7
Sniper Elite 4
Watch_Dogs 2
Nier: Automata (needs it for FPS unlock)
Deus Ex: Mankind Divided

Pretty much 90% of AAA titles in the last 2 years.

I basically just ran SLI to keep a high framerate at 2560x1440 144hz, but this has become increasingly difficult over time. When I first got the cards in 2015, it was actually pretty good because a single 980ti could usually push a high framerate on games from 2015. Single card only for me now!

Tbh I'd try one Ti at first, it'll blow the doors off the 980Ti's where the support is crappola :D

When i had a 1080 sli setup majority of the time i was playing my games with single gpu mode on. A 1080ti will be a much better experience and should excel in all the games out atm at 4k nevermind your monitor.

980ti sli fine for me, no reason to change if have sli already, and if you have a 980ti already its a worth while upgrade for £250/£300 Imo.

However if you believe the horror stories and or just dont want sli then buy the best card you can afford and worry about it later

defo no horror stories, i enjoyed mine on the ones it worked on :)

its all personal choice, i just dont think its worth the lack of support or gains over a single card. One game it smashes it others u are pretty much running a single card like you are now

Comming from 2x 670's to 2x 970's to 2x 980's to 2x Titan-XM's to 1x 1080TI i would go for the single card everytime now on, SLI sucks these days.
