980Ti SLI or 1080Ti

I had 2 980 Tis before I ended up selling one they were fun for benchmarking that's it in play at 4k and since gone to a 1080 Ti no more stuttering with higher vram and frame rates are much more consistent

Coming from a GTX 690, 2x 970s and now a 1080 Ti, I'd definitely recommend single card.

SLI has served me well for a good few years, but it is very irritating when you pick up a new game only to find that the performance is crud due to lack of SLI support.

The only game ive played recently with sli issues was bf1, worked fine in the beta, fine for the first couple weeks and then dice broke it and turned the game from a casual shooter to a casual bit of epelipsy inducing mess.

Unfortunatly with sli issues the devs dont really seem to care much about fixing them. Havent played that mess since altho i hear its been partially fixed.

So to make a point sli is fantastic when it works, and more often than not it does work but when its broken dont expect support from the devs any time soon untill consoles (pesant boxes as i like to call em ) start using dual gpus ofc

I used sli for a few years but gave up after 980 sli , even back then it was easy to see that sli was not being supported well anymore and the best solution forwards would be a single card. Since then ive just gone for the fasted card i can afford and would advise others the same , time and time again i see sli users painting the picture that there grass is greener and it works fine.

Can i ask sli users when you say it works fine what recent games does it work fine with ?

Bf1 (untill the broke it) and doom are the most recent new titles ive played.

I decided to try SLI for the first time with my 7950. Some games work well but generally found it a bit of a headache. I mainly play racing simulations and found quite a few didn't take advantage or there was yet another level of messing about with settings / drivers / profiles to properly take advantage or avoid issues.

In hindsight, I wish I had waited and saved money towards a better card.

I'm currently contemplating an upgrade and will be going for the best single card I can afford / justify - either 1070 / 1080 but also waiting to see what Vega brings.

IMO - SLi has a place. That being when you can happily just sink cash into a pair of the best cards available with the kit to back it.
Pretty much any time options are being weighed for a couple of older cards vs a newer one, the newer one is (as has been said to death every time this comes up) much more likely to perform well everywhere.
980ti sli vs 1080ti, 1080ti, any day of the week.
