Outdoor pizza oven

I have an Uuni 2S quite quick and easy to get going. Takes a bit of practice to make a good job of making a pizza but they have that real wood fired pizza oven taste. I would love a proper clay wood fired oven one day but for now the Uuni is a great entry.
 
We've got a Morso Forno and it's fab. Doesn't take too much time to get up to temperature, just depends how long you need it on for; we've done slow cooked beef and lamb in it for 5-7 hours for example which obviously then requires more fuel but the result is absolutely worth it. In fact we've only coked a few pizzas in it but have used it for loads of different things like roast vegetables, pigs in blankets, and turned it into a BBQ at the weekend with a tuscan grill for burgers and sausages etc.

Plus the thing just looks beautiful.
 
I like the look of the pizza stone "boxes" that go onto a normal BBQ, then I could do pizzas and BBQ without having two different devices.

Do you make the pizza's or just get fresh ones from supermarket etc.

There's little point in putting a supermarket pizza in a proper pizza oven. You want freshly made dough.
For the sauce you can make a big batch and freeze in in portions (IIRC you can do that with batches of the dough as well.)
 
I have one. Not a permanent install right now (find pizza dough thread).

I love it, you cannot match it with a normal oven. Once main house renovation is out the way I'll be building a bespoke one outside to my own design to be a bit more permanent.

We have woods in the garden too, so nice supply of wood!
 
Handy topic as we've been debating building a pizza oven as part of extending the patio.

How much was the Forno @Russinating? I've seen once place with the basic oven around £595 but lots of other places that are over £1k.

The Forno was £999 all in including the chimney which was a socking £139 and the door. The actual oven itself was £759. Was an absolute life saver on Christmas day, we did a whole beef joint in it as well as the pigs in blankets and basically used it as a second oven with almost everything in it, on it or around it at the end.

If it helps we got it from Heritage Morso. They had and may still have a weird 'make us an offer' thing and although they had the Forno listed for £1099 as did John Lewis etc we offered £769 for that, £139 for the chimney and £54 for the door and it was accepted. So was a bit less than I thought at £962 total.
 
thats one sexy oven.

i have no idea why the brick kits are so darn expensive.

Colleague of mine is in the process of building one and had a hand made dome shipped over from Italy. Had to hire a crane to get it into his back garden :rolleyes: I'll be building one myself once I have a place with a garden.

That's beyond dedication...My garden is on second floor so worried about how I'll do mine.

Most likely start from scratch and do the dome myself.
 
I've obviously not done it but I've heard from multiple first-hand sources that building your own often works out more expensive than just buying one due to multiple attempts and fixes etc. Naturally it's also both fixed into position so doesn't easily allow for any movement, and obviously can't be taken with you if you ever move.
 
These look good, can get them cheaper on amazon might be worth a pop and significantly cheaper than a pizza oven.

Yeah I'm really tempted by it, but it would be nice to hear someone's feedback. As much as I'd like one, I don't think I can justify the expense and hassle of a pizza oven. I use my Weber all the time so it makes sense to try the pizza stone.
 
Pizza stones aren't really comparable in many respects. For a start a 'proper' pizza oven is basically just an outdoor oven. I've cooked other foods in ours way more than pizzas and a lot of restaurants use one for most things including at lower temperatures for bread and the like. Most of the recipes I see are for anything but pizza and involve using it as a smoker etc.

The benefit of cooking a pizza in a pizza oven is you can get them up to 500c, allowing you to cook a pizza in less 2 minutes which gives you the effect you'd expect. A stone will get you a slightly crispier base but really the difference between just doing a pizza in your normal indoor oven will be minimal.
