Hi all, I recently purchased an msi 1080 but I now have a 4k monitor and can find some games to be a bit choppy. What is other peoples experience or thoughts on going 1080 sli? :)

yep dont get a 2nd 1080, i got 2 thinking i would get super fps but was I wrong, on a single 1080 or when I disable sli i get more fps on fall out 4, watchdogs 2 is a disaster, its been a nightmare trying to fix, trouble shooting drivers game optimisations ect ect and quite a few other games, sli is so crap now

only doom 2016 and GTAV got good results on sli but its so not worth it, at most id get 20% more on some sli games, so now im going for a single 1080ti once the stock comes in, i can remember when I bought 1070s sli it was to a terrible experience., unles you want a sli rig for looks....

Fair point guys, I did not realise how poor sli has become. I once had 2 x 7950's in crossfire years ago and it was a patchy experience. How much faster is a 1080ti over a standard 1080 at 4k? I have looked at some benchmarks and it looks like 20 - 30% quicker. Is this correct in peoples real world experience?

Got 2x 1080Ti last month. Pretty happy overall, just sad SLi is getting less and less attention these years. Next upgrade may only be one card, something I haven't used in 9 years - always been a happy SLi user, but not so much these last 10 months.
With all the triple AAA titles being if not consoles ports but also made for consoles in mind, it has drastically changed. I really had hoped DX12 would have pushed multi gpu setups in an ever greater direction than before, but so far we haven't seen anything beneficial from DX12 in that regard.

Right now we are consindering selling the 2x EVGA GTX 1080 SC ACX 3.0 SLi in my wifes PC in favor of one 1080Ti, because many of the games she's playing has gotten worse SLi support over the years, an newer games are really inconsistent in not only support but also scaling.

Single card + Gsync will def give a better overall experience imo :)

+1,

While I haven't experienced SLI myself I've read enough subject matter to know it's more hassle than it's worth, just like Crossfire which I have used before.

If I was you I'd stick with the 1080 for now and lower the settings when it's a game that struggles,
I imagine you'll manage to match your monitors 60 hz limit 95% of the time like that.
Put the money in your coffer for the next generation and go big then.

as someone who has been using sli 1080s for just under a year now I can honestly say I haven't had many problems running a two card setup.

Games which don't support sli I just use one card and games which do usually give me enough of a bump to hit 60fps at 4k in most games (a few I do have to turn down settings but mostly AA)

if I was buying now I would still go sli and hopefully these cards will last me a few years.
