They aren't re-branded though, otherwise they would be called 1160 and 1180 etc. Nvidia have seen the same small improvements in manufacturing process and tweaks to the GPU as AMD (there are always ongoing tweaks to try and improve yields mainly, at some point they just call it a new revision number), and are just updating. nvidia probably see icnreased yields and the lwoer costs, users get faster memory and potentially more OC head room. Nvidia just aren't doing ti with a big fanfare and rebranding.
 
It was always a matter of time that the 1080 would get the faster memory, as hynix had greater prospects for increased gddr5x frequencies anyway.
But i'm suprised by the 1060 having faster memory as it has a nerfed memory bus as it is. Clocking my 1060's memory to 4400 does help it a little though.

Conclusion

It is open season for Nvidia's various partners, as with AMD still pushing thirsty rebrands based on ageing architectures, consumers in the market for truly high-end graphics can rightly view GeForce as the only solution.

I usually don't care about these things but I'm actually getting really annoyed by people saying Vega is a "rebrand". It's an entirely new architecture! They have pushed the boat out with new technology and use of expensive HBM2. Fair enough it might not be as fast as you would like or float your boat. But YET AGAIN. AMD are making the actual technical advances here and people just slate them. I can GARUNTEE you that the profit margin on Vega is way less than it is on Pascal. And that's the hit AMD is willing to take for taking the initiative to actually make real advancements. Same goes for their open source approach. AMD actually care about tech and advancement. Nvidia only care about your money and artificially gimping AMD where they can.

What do these advancements do when their end product is worse? The buzzword tech doesn't give me any more frames.

I would probably argue,that even if Vega does not quite deliver,its powered by a GPU not massively larger than Hawaii,and still significantly faster. The only issue is Nvidia got there first!! :p

You know what really does matter? Power efficiency. I don't mean that in terms of the consumer cost to power the cards, i mean in terms of how much performance you can get before you hit a sensible TDP. If AMD could have cracked that, Vega could have been a monster.

Vega will be slow, obsolete and irrelevant in likely ~8 months time when Volta comes out.

With ASync compute, HBM2 memory and infinity fabric VEGA may well be leading the way for the next 10 years of GPU tech. It's just not polished yet.

2 years late to bring something to the table that can't compete with Nvidia's mid-range part and they're leading the way?

LMAO... I can't tell if fanboys know they're fanboys and just try to convince other people or if they actually believe the crap themselves.

It's such a shame AMD killed ATi...
