Police fired at in Champs Eleysee

ISIS have apparently claimed responsibility. I guess they are doing whatever they can to back Le Pen as well. They must be salavating at the thought unfortunately.

I guess ISIS will optimistically claim any Islamic attacks - if this was a few years ago then Al Qaeda would be claiming it

I'd strongly suspect this is/are lone muslim(s) 'inspired' by Islamist propaganda etc.. and not some coordinated attack planned by ISIS leadership. I'd be surprised if it had any relation to the election/Le Pen - there have been plenty of attacks on the continent over the last year or two - the timing of this one is more likely arbitrary.

Must be confusing times for liberals, in bed with radical Islam, turning a blind eye to everything they do, so they can use them against the right. Now Islam is has handed Lepen the victory on a plate.

Yeah in bed with radical Islam
Maybe some of us aren't weak-minded and refuse to allow the worst in our society to dictate our morality and humanity and the way we view and treat other decent human beings!
You really do come out with some utter dribble, then again is anyone surprised? You're a brexit voting trump lover

They haven't claimed most of the lone wolf attacks, and this one was claimed within a few hours of it happening.

Besides that it does play nicely into ISIS' hands. The election of a devisive leader like her would help them greatly. She would enact draconian policy against Muslims and immigrants, helping to isolate entire groups of society. ISIS would then use that as another "example" of how the battle they are fighting really is one of Islam vs the West* and use the disaffection and isolation caused by her policies as a recruitment tool for their cause.

Even if this wasn't an ISIS attack it does unfortunately play into their hands.

*We already have several on this forum calling it that as well, another example of how ISIS are winning the "hearts and minds" game amongst some of the staunchest nationalists/anti Muslims.

I strongly suspect you'll find this is simply a lone wolf radicalised online and not some election related conspiracy planned by ISIS in advance. That doesn't necessarily mean it is not an ISIS attack - frankly any lone wolf attacks carried out in the name of ISIS as a result of being inspired/radicalised by them are still ISIS attacks.

It is the election/conspiracy angle that I find dubious.

An attack that happens days before the elections is strongly likely a way of trying to influence the results in some way. We shall have to wait until the police investigation is completed.

Either way, if Le Pen wins this sort of thing is only likely to get worse unfortunately.

To be clear I'm not denying it will potentially have an effect on votes - I don't believe it was likely it was a conspiracy planned by ISIS. France has a large muslim population and has experienced several attacks already - they'll no doubt experience several more over the coming years.

Possibly this guy has thought the timing would be right as a result of the election - possibly something else tipped him over the edge.

As if it matters if she does or doesn't win, the situation in France is eternal. After all it was a Liberal who basically called for the military on the streets not some extremist.

Why? Why in the world would you want that to happen?

Because it's about time the right-wing started to capitalise on all this **** that's happening across Europe and start taking power away from the socialist left and pandering liberals who are the ones who caused many of these problems in the first place. OK, Le Pen, and her party, are not as far to the right as I'd like but it'd be a very welcome step in the right direction (pun very much intended).

RIP to the police man :(

It's now time to round up all on the terrorist watch list and put them in a FEMA style camp forever.

Really?

I'd say it's been caused by years of meddling in the East by western powers personally.

Remind me again, who was it that got us mired down in Afghanistan and then took this country to war in Iraq too? The latter on the back of some made-up ******** about WMDs and 45mins and in order to help GW Bush finish what Daddy had started and to steal as much oil as possible in the process.

Awful, just awful. At least the guy who did it is dead, but that isn't going to bring back the poor policeman who died. Dread to think what his family is going though.
