E46 Coupes, nightmare or still worth looking at?

Why does it have to be within 60 miles of you? It's a large purchase you're going to keep for a while, surely it's worth travelling for the right car?

Travelling hundreds of miles to view old 2 grand BMWs is a good way of wasting lots of time and money given 90% of them are going to be junk.

Spec seems sparse to say the least, no Xenons, Harman Kardon, no heated or electric seats and no folding mirrors.

Hold out for a 330Ci with decent spec.
The big problem with all of this is that surely every decent optioned 330ci will be virtually fit only for the scrap heap by now? They are the sought after ones which will have been long bought by a string of owners by now :(

Pretty easy to sort through adverts, call the owner and ask lots of questions. 9/10 times you can tell if it's going to be a good one or not. If 90% of them are junk as you say then searching within such a small area almost guarantees you're going to get a bad one.

I'm not really specifically looking for one so not prepared to put loads of effort in. I just had a little browse and spotted that one.

Bearing in mind having bought quite a number of cars now, I've heard lots (and lots, and lots more) lies from sellers about cars condition by the time you get there and it is nothing like which was described.

I'm viewing another house tomorrow afternoon so car buying antics this weekend largely depend on what happens there :) I'm not too fussed about outright performance these days, I cope fine for my needs with a 140BHP Astra (it's hard to go fast these days) so even that BMW would be an improvement, but a far nicer place to be. I do agree a 330Ci would be good but I have seen zero which are worth the money under 3k, same for 325Ci's.

So can we expect a new thread every time you have a little browse of a car you might fancy? :D

My honest answer is that if your heart isn't in it, don't bother with an E46. Your Astra sounds sufficient to you.

And the chance of finding one these days is equally close to zero as well! Those who now have such an old car in good condition probably won't be looking to sell them.

Do I actually have to keep a car for longer than "one month"? :)

Never been a Lexus fan really. Been a bit tied up with work this weekend so not had time to go and view said BMW but see how we go on after work this week.
