I doubt it. Any UK probate can easily be tracked as there is a duty to publish. Usually this means a notice in the Gazette.

, i can't understand how these scams work.

OK he is asking for an insane proportion of your inherited wealth (50%), but there's no request for bank details or for you to send any money to secure some kind of transaction.

What does he get from you replying "please proceed".

Edit: plus it was a pre-paid envelope. Not just shoved through the door by randoms

Why don't you reply Mynight, you've got the details in the letter in the OP. Say you're not the intended recipient, but you would change your name to match the deceased for 40% of the inheritance
