Problem with power button - MacBook Pro 2010 15-inch

Bit of a weird problem and i spent a couple of days googling and it seems like no one has ever had the same problem.

The power button turns on the MacBook with no issues what so ever and absolutely everything else about the MacBook works perfectly. But when i try to shut down the MacBook using the power button there is no response. Just doesn't do anything. I have to do it in the OS.

Once it's off i can use the power button to turn it on again. I can't seem to figure it out, i have opened the mac and clean it out, reset the keyboard connector (even through it's a separate button) and i have reset the P-Ram and the SMC, no difference.

Any help or ideas would be appreciated!
 
OK, i think i fixed this, i reseated the memory and disconnected the battery and reconnected. Unfortunately i did both at the same time so i wasn't sure which one did actually fix this but it now shuts down using the off button!
 
You probably could've fixed it by resetting the SMC -- possibly disconnecting the battery did this.
