Phone Zombies

I'm with Diddums on this, I also dish out a bit of juicy argy bargy shoulder action to people clearly taking the ****. Along with a 'Watch where you're going' comment.

Live with it.

Well i disagree with the way you guys deal with such a minor inconvenience, i hope nobody on the receiving end your argy bargy ever retaliates by grabbing you by the face and smashing your head into a bloody pool of mess on the floor, not everyone is as reasonable as you guys

Such a minor inconvenience? You're not from London, are you? Once a day is a minor inconvenience. 10+ times each way to work and back is not a "minor inconvenience", it's a ******* pain in the arse.

Thanks for your subtle graphic description of how a caveman would react though, very enlightening ;)

Overreact much? It's an inconvenience caused by complete and utter inconsideration.

All i'm doing is standing my ground, why should I move out of the way of someone heading towards me who isn't looking where they're going? It's not as though i'm running around shoulder barging people out of the way WWE style, it results in a little nudge most of the time.

So two wrongs make a right, if that is even true.

Well no, because i'm not in the wrong. I'm walking down the street minding my own business.

I'm not intentionally barging into people, i'll move over 50/50, if a collision happens it's because people aren't looking where they're going.

If someone is walking towards me and they're looking where they're going, i'll more than happily move over for them, and they will generally move over as well. Someone who has their head in their phone won't do that, they expect you to move over. **** that, for someone who doesn't even have the decency of being considerate of others around them? No.

Yes, phone zombies are one of my pet hates, but I don't think it's limited to just phones. There seems to be an endemic lack of awareness and consideration for others by a lot of people nowadays. My biggest peeves are people who stop dead in or around busy doorways, particularly shop or supermarket entrances, to have conversations, check their purse/handbag or just try to remember where they parked

On the subject of shoulder-barging, a few years ago I was walking down the road on the way into town for a night out keeping as far left on the pavement as I could. Towards me came a couple side-by-side, with the guy on a direct collision for me. I decided that I wasn't going to be forced off the pavement if he decided he couldn't give me the courtesy of going down to single-file for a moment while we passed. We banged (opposing) shoulders as he didn't want to cede possession of all the pavement. He stops and complains, asking what I thought I was doing, and that it really hurt(!) I explained that I had a right to use the pavement too. He then tried to go down the route of saying that I was on the pavement on the wrong side of the road for traffic! :D (I was walking on the right, towards on-coming traffic, which I had always read was correct when walking on the road where there is no pavement, but hey, I hadn't given it THAT much thought in all honesty) and then said I was being argumentative when I merely kept asking him where in the Highway Code it said that.... Sometimes you do have to stand your ground (in before boxing stance etc.)

Try travelling through airports for a living. I have got no problem with people being on their phones if they can manage to use their peripheral vision and spatial awareness to keep moving, but the amount of people utterly lost in their phones and entirely oblivious to their surroundings is very high.

It's not always phone related though, some people are just useless.
Mostly it's people not looking much further than the end of their noses.
They walk up to the boarding pass scanners, stop directly in front of them and then search for their phone or pass
They spend an eternity at security stripping off and disassembling their hand luggage. Who are the mentalists who stash all their liquids and gels in amongst their luggage and then spend ages rooting through for them and cramming them into a plastic bag at security? Why don't they pre bag them? Why?!?!

Yesterday evening my wife came down to London to have dinner, meet her after work she wanted to hold hands as we were heading down the tube and was walking very slow and doing everything that annoys daily commuters.

Within 5 days of starting to commute in London, I started to develop a loathing for EVERYBODY on the tube. even the people who aren't doing anything specifically wrong they are still in my way or they smell like week old armpit.

Commuting is hell, I need to find a job I can drive to again, that or go Expat again.

Yep its like weaving through traffic.. sometimes made out of zombified sheep and cattle. I typically walk fast to get to my preferred 'place' when the tube comes, so can easily go to my next 'place' when changing lines. Another pet peev is where people just stand in the middle of the platform to wait for the tube.. ffs either wait at the wall/seats or just behind the yellow lines... oh and having your backpack while on a crowded tube is a big no no as well.
