**** The Official Samsung Galaxy S8/S8+ Thread ****

Coming from a Nexus 5x the battery power on my S8 is fantastic, screen and speed is awesome .... Camera is just as good (colour and tone wise maybe better) than the Nexus 5x

Anyone have issues say with inbox and receiving emails when the phone is on the always screen?

Just had it again this morning, I looked at the lock screen and no email notification then within a few seconds of logging in I got an email that was sent at 8am.

I've checked the battery setting to make sure it's not putting inbox to sleep so is there anything else?

The thing that is bugging me, how can I order my favourite contacts, they've imported from google in a random order and I can't figure out how to rearrange manually :(

I've had this on a few devices for a while. Changing the battery optimisation for the email app to be 'not optimised' helps a bit, but it seems notifications always end up delayed due to doze.

Sorry yes mine are but can you order them manually
Oh right lol

I can't see any option although I have a feeling this used to be possible on the S6 Edge from what I remember. But that had recents, favourites and contacts in separate tabs I think... this seems to be missing the favourites tab as they've merged it with contacts

I've had my s8+ since release and loving it coming from a 2yr old iPhone 6 plus. Last android phone I had was a note 3.

One thing that's bugging me. The blue notification popup at the top of the screen with a slide out preview which I get for WhatsApp messages and txt messages is there anyway of having these for other apps like inbox or gmail.etc showing a preview of the email rather than having to slide down the notification panel?

The Earphones - I've only put them on for about 10 minutes out of curiosity and can say the following compared to my ie80s which as some of you will know are still within the top5 best earphones available on the market (£300+ RRP for those who don't know and have only been known to be bested by £800 grados until not long ago). The included pair seems a bit over zealous, it wants to do everything and hit every range but seems to struggling a bit. It has good range compared to the basic stuff you used to get and I would say it's got good highs and mids - very clear sounding. They do lack on the lows and base department so if you're a fan of big bass then you might need to adjust your equalizer or look elsewhere. Keep in mind that this is in comparison to top range earphones and headphones - I'm sure they're adequate if you've never had an £80+ pair.
Correct me if I'm wrong but they do seem to be noise cancelling pair and the noise cancelling seems to be good and unobtrusive (no hiss). I really could only tell by snapping my fingers next to my ear and have not been able to hear it. They do also seem bit loud. The sound reproduction does leave a bit to desire but again, this is comparing to some of the best on the market. Unfortunately I don't have a £9.99 pair to compare but I did have a 2yr old £25 pair of noise cancelling ones that had to be charged and would say that the "sky are better overall. Usually good earphones do take about 2 weeks to break in so these could end up better. I'd rate them 3.5/5 (with ie80/grado being the 5/5+ mark and low end shure etc around £100+ Mark being 4/5). The non tangle cable is also nice and you can control music etc from it which is bonus.

That's all I can think of for now!

Pretty sure they're only noise isolating, like any other in ear pair of earphones are, they've not advertised any sort of actual noise cancelling functionality and until I got foam tips for them, they didn't even isolate very well for me, certainly weren't cancelling any noise actively. You mention the cable being nice however on the move it's a nightmare for noise, every slight touch of the cable generates a horrible noise from the braiding, I think they'd have been better off just plastic shrouded.

As I mentioned before though, for me, the foam tips transformed them - before that, they were pretty much destined for the bin, now I find them decent enough to use as a day to day pair, though still not matching up to my super.fi5. I'd highly recommend people get a set, they're only a couple of quid on Amazon and really improved the noise isolation and sound quality. These fit perfectly and come as 6 pairs so plenty of replacements - https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B01BHD9A0Y/

Damn them :p maybe they will update it

Anyone able to help with some comparisons / troubleshooting please?

GSam is showing about 3.8% drain per hour with relatively light use (phone is mainly just sitting there doing nothing).

Anyone want to download please and see what their drain is like for comparison? Seems a bit high but I can't work out what's causing it, or if it is regular.

Thanks!

Anyone got the clearview standing case? I'm tempted for the stand

Doesn't it tell you what is using the battery? I use AccuBattery Pro (costed a pound o something) and it tells you how much battery each app has used in each session.
I don't think 3.8% combined usage is much but there are too many variables to compare - do u have location / wifi / data / sync on, apps could have been updating in the background when screen is off etc if you have auto update on, variety of apps could cause battery to drain even when you're not using them. It could have been backing up data to samsung or google cloud as well etc.

I was tempted to get the clearview case but when I saw it in person I had the impression that the clear cover will scratch easily or wont hold up well in the long run. I got the LED case instead. Very nice sleek looking and the led is also functional. No stand though..

I also use accubattery pro. Do you follow the 80% charging limit the app proposes? I did my own research and read numerous articles regarding charging battery and i think the 80% charge limit is spot on.

Thanks guys

location, wifi, data and sync all on - wifi in use

Accubattery pro sounds like it may be worth it. GSam 'app sucker' only seems to show GSam itself lol plus 'combined app CPU' of 29%

Got any more info on the 80% charge limit please? Sounds intriguing... stops it charging above 80% for battery health is my guess? Or it is just a reminder and you have to unplug it yourself?
