Got a wall light that seems to be on even with the (single way) switch below unplugged.

Currently I've wired all together as shown here, is this correct?
(2 reds together
2 neutrals together)

The single way doesn't seem to turn the light off... Any ideas? Props to anyone that can help!!

** I dint think I've drilled through the cables but I'll check that tomorrow.
* switch also has a two switch to the light above which is working fine

Is there just the 1 wall light or 2?

Pics of the switch wiring would help

Ps. What have you done? taken wall light off the paint wall? is the wiring connected back the same as before?

Just one wall light (the switch on the wall controls the ceiling light as a two way which is working fine, and the wall light as a single way)

The wall light is wired as L1 to red and L2 to black on the switch. If I put it at "Common" it blows the fuse. I think the L1/L2 way is correct however?

Im pretty sure its wired as previous (it's a new light on a freshly skimmed wall...) Thus my confusion!

If only 1 wall light then having 2 cables at the light probably means its looped at the wall light, so would be same as a pendant, 1 black is neutral, 1 black is switch live, 2 reds together as live loop and the switch would be red in common and switch live in L1

so need to figure figure out which black goes to the switch and connect that to the brown from wall light and other black to blue from wall light and connect reds together but not connected to the wall light wiring

Have you got a multi meter? or you could separate the 2 wires and connect red and black from each cable to the wall light, 1 will leave it permanently on the other its wont work so you can tell the non working one goes to the switch, working one will be the permanent live and neutral supply

Ps the reason the light is jamned on is that you have the light connected to permanent live and neutral, the switch isnt actually doing anything with it connected L1 and L2, and when you move the switch wiring to com and L1 its blows because its a dead short live through switch to neutral because the wiring at the wall light is wrong etc

so connector block at light should be wired as:

Wiring side ------- wall light side

black (neutral) ----- Blue
Earth ------ earth
Black (switch live) ---- Brown
2 reds ------ Nothing (empty)

Then wire switch red in com, black (switch live) in L1

Just need to figure out which black is neutral and which is switchlive - it will work either way but should make sure its correct polarity really
