Leasing, any benefit?

If you can find a good deal it is fine. I had an Audi A6 for £260 a month on a 3+23 deal. You just have to give it back in excellent condition, I had a bill for £1000 when I gave mine back, which I argued and ultimately got down to £0.

My problem with leasing is when you give them back - they expect a brand new car only the smallest of marks and scratches are allowed. Mine required £650 of repairs - admitedley half of them were my fault (kerbed it in snow)

Same can sometimes be said for the sale of a two year old car as well though i.e. if we assume people taking a lease deal change their car every few years, then going the alternative route you'd be trying to see a two year old car with damage which would probably impact on the amount you could get back for it.

Financially I find both much of a muchness and you get good deals either way..

E,g, We found the new Mini countryman Copper D (2.0 Chilli) for £1.8k down and £250 x 48 on allcarleasing (special offer, all inc. VAT), that's considerably less than the best PCP deal offered (Some £4K more over the term)..

As mentioned, it's the relative lack of flexibility to PCP that needs to be factored in..

In both cases you have to keep the car in good condition (depends on the company, some are far more fussy than others) and obviously you never really own either unless you are in the very rare minority that pay the GFV in a PCP and don't just roll on to the next deal.

I just couldn't bring myself to do either in the end, I'd rather buy something 1-2 years old with a bit of warranty left and get a better spec'd car with good discount, that has worked out financially far better for me, I tend to keep a car either short term, or hang on to it forever..

On the other hand I gave back my VRS recently and wasn't charged a penny. My girlfriends father just gave back a Mercedes that he didn't pay a penny on and also the Mercedes before that. Look after things and you have nothing to worry about.

Also £650? That's a lot more than 1 kerbed alloy wheel. Sounds like you didn't look after the car and feel peeved when you are quite rightly, charged for the damage you caused. Either yourself or lack of care about where you park etc.

We are on our second lease car (well for the wife and for me to use now and again, I have a M135i that i bought outright).
First was a Fiesta ST2 on 6+23 @ £165 a month, 10k pa, gave it back with a small rear bumper scuff, little more obvious front bumper scuff and a couple of kerbed alloys with one worse than the other. Only one alloy was noted as damaged but in the end they didn't charge us.
Now on a Leon Cupra Black 290 on 1+23 @ £249 a month, 10k pa, which is a great price compared to buying anything similar.
Usually with VW Financial Services cars they will let you reduce the monthly payment after say 12 months if you are going to be under the agreed mileage, also when the 2yrs is up they will often allow you to keep hold of it and pay a similar monthly price for another 12 months or even on a month by month basis. This is obviously not guaranteed but its what i've read mentioned many times on the PH leasing threads and i've been watching them for the past 2.5yrs or so.

Problem I had was parking it anywhere such as town or supermarkets... I'd always come back to new stratches or dings

I haven't had a scratch, ding or kerb mark on a car in about 10 years. You must park in some terrible places.

We have someone in work that pretty much said the same thing, I went out to his car and we stopped counting after I'd found 10 imperfections on his 5 year old car..

The vast majority off all scratches and minor dings in my cars have been caused by other people and I've not noticed any difference in peoples inconsiderate behaviour no matter if it's been a rough or more affluent area..
