Le Vote, France start to elect a new president

Ironically I'd also almost wanted le pen to win just because it would force the EU to improve our post brexit deal.

I'd you want to see suffering just wait until you see the kicking the EU, and the 27 member states, gives us for leaving.

I really wish the referendum here had a different outcome but it's the path we voted for so time to take our lumps :(

Vive la France! :D

So falls the priestess of fear! This is 4chan 2 mins ago:

Vive la France!

Yep, Macrons the EU's man, and certainly no friend of a Brexit UK. I'm on a French expat forum, and most seem to see him as the least worst option, which is hardly confidence inspiring
I expect his ratings will tank in the same way Hollande's did in a few years, and the merry go round can start all over again.

It's weird hearing the BBC talk about how the media have been so biased towards Macron "not even hiding their preference", as if they believe they weren't.

Can they really be relied upon as I'm sure many of the le pen voters wouldn't admit to it? Seems odd when the polls got it so wrong with brexit and trump.

They didn't though. It's a myth that seems to be peddled by a certain group again and again. They certainly weren't perfect, but they really weren't that far off.

For Brexit it predicted a close call, with the odds favouring remain. In the end leave just won.

For Trump it was predicted to be fairly close, with Clinton winning. She won the popular vote but lost a few key states by very close margins.

This election was not even close from the start.

This was the NF's last chance. Soon France will be so full of immigrants there will be no chance of them ever getting enough votes and France will continue to slide into a cesspit of endless immigration and violence.

Fascism - what's not to hate? The mainstream conservatives represented by Fillon will still get enough seats to offer more traditionalist views in the legislature. Look up the forecast earlier in this thread. If Macron fluffs this up, he has nobody to blame but himself.

Not an unexpected result. I predicted Le Pen would get a third of the vote and she got slightly over. 10% spoiled ballots though - French democracy is not in a good place and I doubt Macron will be the guy to sort it out.

It's funny isn't it, during the campaign Macron said that the EU had to reform, now he's won his supporters are saying this election was a referendum on the EU i.e. remain has won, no need for any reform.

Do you think it's time to pull out the links pointing out that immigrants are generally no more likely to commit crime than natives, and that socioeconomic factors are a far greater cause of crime?

It's just I'm getting bored hmof having to copy/paste the same stuff over and over again.:p

Like I said earlier if Le Pen had won the EU would have had to reform, Macron won't do that despite his campaigning - he can't.

A reformed EU would have led to remainers calling for a second EU referendum so British independence probably just dodged another bullet.

The reason you have to keep copying and pasting the same stuff over and over is because no-one believes it anymore. People aren't dumb, they can see what's going on with their own eyes. Since you're in Canada, why don't you go and show those stats to a First Nationer and see if it matters to them.

Let's all have a lovely drink of fascist tears. :D

Macron supports supply-side market reforms and fiscal integration via proper Eurobank, he may not get it, but it's worth a try and something you can hold to account re Euro. Le Pen? Have you looked at her economically illiterate, protectionist drivel that would've sent France into the stone age, within a hell of dual currency and trade wars! That would not have been reform, it'd have been home-wrecking!

No, @scorza, the dumb people just think they are smart. They are not, nor are they the majority.

But what does it say when an unpopular completely inexperienced centrist 'politician' completely trounces the far right generational politician

What, you mean someone touting for votes might say things they don't totally believe in to garner a wider support???

I'm shocked! :o

Don't be so ridiculous....

Enforcing an immigration policy is facism? no wonder the right is on the rise. Give it some more time.

Third way politics, xenophobia to whip up marginal voters, economic protectionism and heavy dollops of anti-semitism, Islamophobia and just your rank level Vichyist twaddle, with some plagiarised and 4chan material. Yeah, I think that's a duck we know the quack of quite well, thanks.
