Liquid AIO cooling

Hi,

I currently have a i7-3970X which I'm overclocking to 4.5GHz (Offset VCore +0.005). However, the temperatures at full load are waaaay too high (they get to 90 degrees and start throttling after 15 seconds of OCCT).

I currently have a Zalman CNPS20LQ http://www.zalman.com/contents/products/view.html?no=333
liquid CPU cooler.

I'm wondering if upgrading the cooler to a 240mm or 280mm AIO cooler (like the NZZT Kraken 62 or a corsair one) would make a difference to the temperatures?

Could potentially go for this one: ** No Competitors **
Trouble I have:

1. Will it actually make a decent difference to what I have to make the CPU not throttle?
2. I like the NZZT Kraken 62, but the required CAM software is pretty ****, according to a lot of people and it interferes with Asus AURA. It also is horrible as it requires a facebook/google login.
3. The thermaltake one looks good (apart from the horrible cpu cooler design).
4. A Corsair one I'm not sure about - the 115i according to a lot of reviews is very loud. Also not sure about the Corsair Link software.

There seems to be a lot of negative points to balance some of the very good products. It's a shame there isn't a "perfect" product I could find.

Could I potentially bring the system down to manageable temperatures so the CPU is not thottling?

I don't see 4.5GHz as a massive amount of overclocking - it's just a moderate 28.5% overclock.

I'm basically looking for an AIO solution that can dissapate at least 200W of applied power. This should be probably a bit more than the 150W TDP of the processor.

Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks.

1. AIOs and big CPU coolers are way better than your little AIO you have am sure :)
2. I will not recommend the 62, Am just sending my back to amazon. CAM wouldn't pick up the pump so I had zero control of the unit causing the CPU to overheat, The CAM software is legit the worse thing I've never used in my life.
3. Can't comment on thermaltakes stuff.
4. Am about to buy a H115i after having to deal with the crappy 62. There loud fan wise, Replacing the H115i fans seems to fix the loud issue for most. Plus corsair is a brand I know I can trust more over NZXT :>

Just my comments.

Yeah this is exactly what I've read about the CAM software. Shame cause the 62 looks like an amazing bit of kit. Really ****** me off.

What I've read about the H115i is that the fans are really loud even at moderate fan speeds. Like 45 db.

Yes agree with the above. The reason the H115i (and most AIOs I guess) is loud is because of the stock fans. I changed them for some Noctua fans and performance/noise is really very good now.

If there was at least an alternative piece of software that could control the fans and pump and lighting, I'd get it without a doubt. Shame there isn't. Plus I've actually never heard about NZZT until I did my research on AIO coolers and they had the best performance.

Do you have a link so I can take a look at those noctura fans? There's a fair amount of Noctura gear on overclockers, not sure which is better or not. Thanks.

I run my Ryzen 1800X @ 4GHz with the H110i with ML140 fans on lowest setting via a manual front-bay fan controller. It does the job extremely well.

My temps are low 70's after 30 mins of RealBench @ fixed 60% fan speed. That's with a 6900K @ 1.31v.

That's pretty good, exactly kind of temperatures I'd want at load. Thanks for taking the time to reply.

One last thing - this requires a USB 2.0 header for the configuration to work - I'm not sure I have a spare one on my motherboard - the 2 are used for front USB connectors and the other for the rear ones. Granted, I could just not use either the front or rear ones, but is there an alternative?

You need it connected to use corsair link. However what you could do is connect it, update the required settings in corsair link, then write the settings to firmware (options -> devices -> use current settings as default). After that you don't need corsair link unless you want to change the settings again or need to reset them because you lose the settings (which I think will happen if your PC is powered off completely). Alternatively you could just see how you get on with the default settings.

Ah ok, that's not so bad then - I could connect it just to configure it then let it run - will it still update the motherboard through the fan header with the fan speeds etc for monitoring? Also, im not sure but does it have any inline temperature sensors (like liquid temperature) etc? I guess that's not important but a would-be-nice.

Yea not allowed to link other people or metion scam really but sure XD

I'll most likely be jumping on the 115I as well tonight so I'll join ya though I have credit elsewhere to buy it :V

Just installed the H115i today. Not an easy job.

It turns out it wouldn't fit into my Cosmos II case - I know right, you can fit dead bodies inside that! - because the Rampage IV extreme motherboard had the 24 pin ATX power connector right where the radiator should be -_-

In the end I had to bodge it by drilling a hole in my PC chassis to hold a screw. In the end its fitted with only 3 screws.

Pretty pleased with it so far once it's set up correctly. Before just after installation, it sounded like someone doing the hoovering right in your ear!

Got my h115i in last night too. Swapped the fans on it.

1200rpm and half pump rpm keeps my 1700 ryzen at 55c in prime @ 1.35v 3.9ghz. Best cooler ever.
