can we all agree that mario kart on the snes battle mode is the best

SNES Mariokart is best Mariokart. N64 is good but there's something missing.

Still play MK with friends on retro nights!

I always preferred the handling on the SNES version compared with later iterations. Always felt too 'floaty' after that. Although I never played later ones as much

Had forgotten about battle mode. Was fun, that.

There is a working SNES on eBay for £30 at the moment if any of you are feeling a bit nostalgic.

Not really, it was amazing at the time (and for a long time after) but has been bettered by the N64 and Switch versions as you would hope as technology has improved, the game hasn't changed that much fundamentally but the whole experience is more polished.

A lot of people might agree with your statement going on their personal memories of the SNES at that time, but what specific things would you say were better than the latest installment?

Why is SNES battle mode better than the Switch version?

Ah, you might be right there. I haven't played that. I don't think the racing in MK8 is better than the SNES version, though - obviously taking into account advances in game tech - and would love a return to the tighter, more racing focus of SNES MK as opposed to the more chaotic, party focus we have today.

SNES just feels raw and intense. Nearly ended up in fights with mates in the past over it! :D

I've not played the new switch version so I have no clue whether they've managed to recapture that.

Switch version is more intense but that could even be a bit of a negative as sometimes it feels a bit chaotic.

If you put them side by side and hadn't played either previously and didn't have fond gaming memories of days gone by I don't think many people would choose the SNES over the Switch.

I'm not so sure seeing as there's a retro vibe around these days and people aren't bothered by inferior graphics so much.

I still play MK and MK64 regularly and it's split about 60/40 between my mates as to who wants to play what between those two. 4 player is a laugh, wish it was possible with the original.

I'm tempted to get a Switch for Zelda and possibly MK now you mention it but I'm waiting on another hardware revision that addresses some of the things I've read that concern me.
