Getting a ps4 pro and giving my ps4 to my son...questions on sharing games etc.

You can only activate / de-activate consoles once or twice a year, so make sure you get it right. Do it wrong twice and you won't be able to fix it for a year.

That's only using the web interface. You can deactivate as much as you want from the consoles themselves.

download them from the store using the account that owns them

i had both ps4's on and then connected them to the same router via ethernet. It transferred everything to the pro in about an hour. I believe you can also connect them directly to each other via ethernet as well. All games now work on the pro. And my external drive was plug and play, ie all the games on it that were previously installed to work on my original ps4 now work perfectly on my pro, without me having to redownload or anything.

Very easy!

not true.

I do this with a mate to share games and PSN plus so I know exactly how it all works.

OLD PS4 - Put your account on this and set it as your accounts primary console.

That way any account on the old PS4 can use your PSN plus and access all the games on your account.

PS4 Pro - Put your account on this but do not set it as it's primary console.

Only your account can play online or play the games associated with that account.

so when my son comes over can he login with his account details and play online on my pro?

Also used the two PS4's on the same network copy method. An ease.

Out of interest the secondary ps4 has PSN, is it because the my user is on there? Do you only need one sub for a house?

so the two psns on one account thing only works if it's on the same network? damn, i maybe need to get him his own psn plus account then. But we can still share games i assume...

no he can't - read my first post in this thread it explains everything clearly

again i've answered this in my first post. i'll explain using examples now to make it easier.

I have 2 ps4's okay lets call one of them fat PS4 and slim PS4 (it doesn't matter what they are these are just names to help you differentiate).

slim PS4 is my PS4 i use it at home. fat ps4 is my brothers PS4 he uses it in his home.

I have a PSN account with PSN plus. lets call this account Super account. My bro has an account without any games or psn plus his account is called Lame account.

okay so 2 ps4's 2 accounts both completely different.

I go round to my bro's house and setup Super account on his fat PS4. I set fat PS4 to be Super accounts primary console. Since Super account has PSN plus and fat PS4 is set to primary console. Any account used on fat PS4 can use Super account's games and psn plus sub to play online. So you can have 10,000 accounts on fat PS4 none with any games or with psn plus and they can all play super accounts games and online too any time. so long as that console is set to be Super accounts primary console. So my bro log's in to fat PS4 with Lame account and plays online using Super acoount's games and plus sub.

I then go home to Slim PS4. I put Super account's details into Slim PS4. However I can only have 1 primary console which is Fat PS4. Therefore I do not set Slim PS4 to be my primary console I leave it as a "secondary" console. If I set this as a Primary console then nobody can use my games or plus sub on fat PS4. Now since Slim PS4 isn't Super account's primary console. Only Super account can be used to access the games on that account and only super account can play online.

So I am going to play Destiny online on Slim PS4 on slim PS4 on my Super account. My bro can play Destiny also or any other game Super account has online too on fat PS4 using his lame account at the same time. you cannot use for instance super account on both consoles at the same time, it will log you out of 1 console.

I hope you all understand now.

no it doesn't i do this with my bro who lives 15 miles away. we have 1 psn account with plus and all the games on it. i use my account he uses his own account. his console is set to my accounts primary console.

That's actually a great explanation. How does buying games work though? Can you still purchase games on the secondary console?

@snow patrol, so just make sure that your account is set as primary on his console and secondary on your console. On his console, he can use his own non PS Plus account and you can use your PS Plus account on your Pro. If he was to play online at your house, he would need to play on your account or bring his own console, or have PS Plus himself. But you could go around to his house and play your PS Plus account online on his console.

try and buy all games on the Super account so both people can play them.

That's what I meant :p, buying the games on the PS Plus account but being able to buy them on the secondary console. Since his primary account/console will be in another location. Guessing you can do then.

oh yeah that is possible. just log into the account you want to buy games on then go to the psn store. just make sure your logged into the right account.

i have 3 accounts on my console for example. 1 of them is a USA account. so i can buy games on that account from america in dollars. or i can buy US game codes which i input into my US account to get games. i got the last of us for £7 that way. it was around £25 here in the UK at the time i bought it.

I do this sharing thing with my son but we are in the same house on the same network.

Just out of interest is this against sonys rules or is it legit and sony fully allow users to share in this way? Seems strange that they would allow it as they are losing money...right??

it's legit as in it's supposed to be used by siblings / family.

as in there is no way in hell they expect say a dad of 3 to buy 3-4 copies of the same game as well as 3-4 ps plus subs, etc.

if your doing it with a mate to get half price live and half price games then yeah that would be against sony's t & c's.

it's also for people that live in 2 places, say a kid that has divorced parents. so he has a console at both houses.

also they make more money on digital sales, they are usually more expensive and have zero costs. whereas physical games all require transportation, delivery, wholesalers, retailers, etc. i imagine they make a lot more money out of digital games in terms of profit margins.
