The etiquette of the election all-nighter

Be loud and inconsiderate from now until election night. On election night watch TV as normal. Will be a welcome change to your neighbors.

Can I ask why you'd want to do this?
I can understand it on something close and important like the eu ref (maybe)

But this is a foregone conclusion.
Nothing will change day after, not even the stock markets will move
Why not just go to bed?

I just hope the Lib Dems do well this time around. They are the only party I could consider voting for. Labour under Corbyn is a big no and the Tories are just the Tories. Unfortunately I think most people in this thread are right though and it will be a big Tory win. I'll probably still stay up all night to watch the election though. It is always fun to see the results come in and see all the extra info the BBC put into the news programme.

Problem I foresee is any of the "left" hoping to keep the Cons out are going to be split between labour and lib dems with greens taking their token few, along with labour apparently being pretty much dead in Scotland(according to the Scottish people I know. Anecdotal I know). Not so many options right of the line will consolidate votes. Short of a mass tactical vote I don't see it going anyway other than cons and I'm not overly hopeful of what that'll bring.

I'll be watching it just to see if the BBCs fancy 3D graphics software has had some upgrades :D.

The UK will just further fall into the cataclysmic wave of radical authoritarianism and socialism brought upon on us by those who believe in the nanny state and it's right to interfere in our personal lives. Hopefully climaxing in a V for vendetta style liberation of the people in time for November 5th.

I don't think Corbyn has a hope in hell of doing well. The best thing that could happen to the Labour party if you ask me is that he does so badly he is forced to resign and then someone reasonable and towards the centre left replaces him. The Lib Dems I like because they are the only party really going out of their way to support Europe which I think is the most important issue facing the country at the moment. After all 48% of the people who voted in the EU referendum voted to stay in so there are clearly plenty of people who agree with me. Plus the Lib Dems are near the centre in terms of politics. As I am someone with a disability I fear what the Tories are doing to the health care system when it comes to my particular health issues and I can only see that getting worse.

If you think the UK is socialist now you have clearly ignored history. The UK straight after WW2 was far more socialist than anything we have seen in the last 30 years, if not longer. I hope we get a different approach shining through. I've even considered starting my own political party. I know no one would join but at least I would feel like I was doing something to buck the rather depressing trend that the UK is in with right wing populism basically ruling over the country and the short termism that that brings. I've spent much of my time reading about radical leaders from the past and getting inspiration from them. While I don't condone his racism I do think that people like Oswald Mosley had some interesting ideas especially when it came to Europe. Having said that most people were racist at the time so attacking Oswald Mosley for being racist is ignoring the social landscape of the time.

If one were to actually accept that as true (where was the welfare state throwing money at people back then?). A country in a postwar state is hardly a meaningful frame of reference.

Heh if you think the welfare state system is throwing money at people I have to question where you are getting your facts from. Someone on full disability benefits gets about £1000 a month which is less than minimum wage (that includes ESA support group and the highest level of PIP). Someone on JSA gets even less than that (and I mean much less than that). Basically if you are on benefits you'll get less than minimum wage even if you are medically unable to work at all. Try living in somewhere like Surrey on less than minimum wage.

It sounds like you get your facts from the Daily Mail or something.

Edit: Most disabled people won't get full PIP as it is extremely strict so don't think they are giving out £1000 to every disabled person a month because they aren't.

Why are you focusing on pip and jsa? They are a small drop in the ocean compared to the other benefits. Where am I getting my facts from? The ONS...

Still does not the address the issue that it is not a suitable frame of reference.

You should go for it. People do run as independents and get in. Which is effectively the start of your own party. There are few good choices these days and from reading your posts I think you would come across very well. If nothing else, it would be something that was interesting to do and meet a lot of people. And who knows - with the level of resentment to all mainstream parties at the moment, you might be in with a chance. ;)
