OK, i've been a bit of an Apple fanboy for the last 10... Always had to HAVE the new iteration soon as it came out... Don't shoot me, i enjoy the excitement every yr ! However it goes away quickly, and for the last 2 or 3 yrs it has felt very same'o same'o.... Apple phones to me are now becoming seen it done it, and quite frankly, i'm a bit bored of them.

However the new Samsung S8 has tweaked some interest. I am a little invested in Apple, as i do have the Apple Watch. But anyway, was going to ask who of you who's been more into iPhones one day decided BORED and gone with Android?

Build quality of the S8 is pretty nice, and despite the much higher depreciation than an Apple product, i'm tempted into trying something else... What set all this off? my son has switched from Apple to Android, so i started looking into the models that were out there, and i really like the look and feel of the S8...

Would i go back once the iPhone 8 comes out? Probably, but i just feel Apple needs to do something new.. I've been looking at that same old interface for what seems forever and ever !

If you're going to do it, don't go in complaining about everything that you miss about iOS. Just be open minded, android is great but it's different. There will be things you can't do and others you'll have to do differently (no iMessage/FaceTime) but that's OK. I've used iOS, Windows and Android, all can be enjoyed with the right mindset ;)

Someone has actually used Windows ? lol

I used Android for years. I also had a Windows phone, still have it running on my second number lol .

Moved to Apple and would not go back to Android, hope the iPhone 8 is something special.

I was a die hard iOS fan boy , though this was during the iPhone 5 era when I abandoned ship. Had the whole apple ecosystem in my house and truth be told moving away was the best decision ever. Still got my aging Macbook though but it's so slow on the modern OSX's that it is rarely used.

The longer I used iOS the more frustrated I became really. Managing photos on an iPhone or iPad was a disaster and I just gave up. Moved to an Android phone firstly and the very first thing that hit me was the notification pull down and how useful it was. I never used control centre or notifications on IOS - the features poorly tacked on (still are to this day).

Just use android and get used to everyday features like setting your default clients and doing what you want to do. Enjoy the detents system - the sharing icon on most apps that allow apps to work and share data/links. Mess around with theming the OS and Icons until you're sick of it and when you're done with that, play with widgets!

My wife last October moved from her aged iPhone 4 to her first Android phone, which was a OnePlus3. She now struggles with her iPad as she gets frustrated a lot of the time as she'd like to upload her photos and content to the device without using iTunes.

Battery life isn't as good on android obviously but it's way ahead in a lot of areas. It's your phone and you can use it how you want.

Made the switch in 2015 to Android, will be going back to the iPhone.
Android is just generally slower, glitchier and lacks the quality of apps on iOS. I'd miss the notifications system though.

Not exactly jumping to Android completely but my uncle who's a die hard fan (literally every iPhone model up to the 6s) and found Samsung's Android UI too confusing and not as smooth, got himself a Xiaomi phone and really enjoys using it, as the UI is similar to iOS. He also finds it relatively bug free and smooth. Uses it for his Hong Kong SIM now and bought another two for his kids.

So I guess it depends on which manufacturer you move to, their version of Android might make you move away from iOS for good, or want to go back.

I don't own an iPhone but I do have a 2017 iPad and an S7 Edge. I've had iPhones and numerous Samsungs, Nexus phones and the odd HTC and Sony thrown in for good measure.

The problem with Samsung is, they make nice hardware, but the software, while feature filled, always seem to slow the phone down. Its not too bad on the S7 Edge but compared with a Vanilla Android phone it is noticeably slower / laggier, given equivalent hardware, in fact, even some lesser hardware can run better.

I'm curious actually to see what the iPhone 8 will be like, because I can get it cheap through work, but I have to admit, Android just seems that bit more capable to me at this moment, even though I do enjoy my iPad, certain things are a bit odd and it is a little restrictive in comparison. That may not matter to you but it really depends how you use it and what you use it for.

TLDR: If you want iPhone speed AND flexibility and power, go for a Pixel (or some other device that is close to stock).

I dropped iphone for Android when 6 was released. I'm 95% Apple "environmentalist" at home and at work, almost all of my machines at the moment, even the ones running linux are Apple made, but to me anything over £500 for a phone is just unreasonable, I felt iOS was going in the wrong direction and I hated the look and manically stubborn lack of functionality of the "white iOS" generation.

I am currently using Honor, as in home branded Hauwei and I literally have no complaints about Android OS - for £270 the phone is better than anything mobile Apple manufacturers at the moment. I mean even gestures on Hauwei/Honor fingerprint scanner are so far ahead of anything in Apple and Samsung world it's not even funny - tbh, I don't understand how Samsung became flagship Android manufacturer, I find their phones universally too expensive for what they are, bland, slow, bloated and their customisations ill thought out.

The biggest downside to Android are adverts in apps. For the lack of better description - vast majority of play store apps are unvetted and spammy. Google's vetting process is lacklustre, it's not uncommon for apps use ad api which exploits permissions and opens adverts full screen or across half screen. It's not uncommon for even sat nav app to open full screen advert when you are at junction (Waze) rather than prepare you for the next turn for example. It's not uncommon for advert API to exploit a loophole and bypass application state - so you may be playing angry birds with sound off, but the advert will start blasting full volume during spam cut scene. Often repetitive and inappropriate for content adverts as well (gambling ads shown to minors or in money saving apps etc).
This seems to be purely API thing - the app might be the best stuff ever, but the advertisers will make it a nightmare without developer having any input on what happens on the screen of their apps. That said - it's not uncommon for an application to open full screen demand for likes on social media with the tiniest [x] in the corner as the only method of exiting - try to explain to your elderly relative why an app that was supposed to give her cake recipe suddenly is holding her screen ransom unless she performs some unsolicited thumbing or other fingering services for it on face or tw*tter.
That kind of excrement wouldn't fly too long in Apple's app store, but google is just letting it slide (as it brings money). And it really is ugly, unsightly spam fest of the lowest denomination. Also in play store most of the spamware driven apps don't have 99p advert-free versions, so you can't even pay for that spam to go away. That, I feel, should be mandatory.
