Hi all

Ive been thinking about having a new hobby when I get my PC up and running

I was thinking about doing a gaming/Vlogging channel on Youtube but not 100% yet... Its just purely for fun and to share my gaming content with others...

Anybody on here have your own channel for stuff like this?

Thanks

You'll find it extremely hard to start now, too saturated by countless people trying to do the same thing.

I'd even suggest twitch over Youtube, but that's just as bad.

A friend of mine recently got back into PC gaming, and bought himself a new PC (his first in over a decade). His intention was much the same as yours, make videos, build a community, etc. He has been streaming on Twitch for a couple of months now and has built himself a loyal fanbase, made a whole bunch of friends, and is having a great time. His Twitch channel is still relatively small, but it's growing.

I would recommend going the Twitch route for starters, and upload highlights of your streaming footage to Youtube to start building content. If you have even the slightest bit of charisma, you can do it. Good luck!

I have an account with Twitch but only viewed on there in the past... I see where your all coming from, there are so many channels on YouTube now that basically broadcast the same stuff so it will be hard to get a fan base..

I will see how I can get on with Twitch and do a stream channel see how it goes...

Thanks again all :)

It depends entirely on your personality and the games you play, ask any of the big streamers and they'll tell you it was all luck getting into it at the right time. Granted it's way more difficult now but it's not impossible if you have the right tools.

As long as your motivation is simply to engage with the community rather than make any money I'd say give it a go, it's only your time after all and if you intended on playing the games anyway then there really isn't anything to lose.

I want to get into it just to get more into the gaming community and join other gamers doing what we enjoy..... I don't intend to become a well known name or make money just purely for enjoyment .. I'd be playing the games anyway so would just be nice to showcase it to

Unless your planning on playing more 'niche' games like flight sims etc it'll be hard to get started. If your doing it purely from a fun angle instead of trying to make it your full time job go for it.

Unless your female then show some cleavage and over night you'll be a twitch star!

I used to do dreamcast stuff, but stopped years ago. thinking about getting into it again once i have my gaming room 100% done.
If your doing it for fun then go for it, but dont do it to make money because you wont (Especially with the recent YT changes)

But when I was active I was actually surprised at the comments being positive on most of my videos (few hundred views each), Im sure you can get a decent community out of it if you stick at it enough and your not a mega sap.
its hard work though , filming and editing is a mega chore.

I'm part of Reject Gamers. I would link a vid but the language isn't censored.

Seems everyone and their grandmother has a gaming channel now, but if your doing it for fun, go for it.
Thankfully I don't do any of the editing, so I only get to do the fun stuff! ;)

No big breaks yet, not quitting my day job anytime soon, but we have been given a few free games and it is fun when you get people together for a recording session.

I could always put on the wife's lingerie and play the games but I have a hairy chest :p

This is the sort of thing I'd like to do, enjoy gaming, get part of a community and maybe get some free games..
Wife has a channel, but cake/ baking stuff and yea there are a ton of others on there, but if you're just doing something you enjoy and keep churning out the content, then why not?

Not sure if it's allowed to link, but hey: https://www.youtube.com/c/harpermaes

That's brilliant... TBH you don't see to many of the baking channels so your wife has made a good choice there

Just dont add donation buttons and all that crap when you have like 5 viewers. Most people that start off doing it for the hope of getting money fail, its the people that have a genuine passion and start off doing it for fun that have the best chance of actually taking off imo. You also need the right qualities to be a successful streamer and/or be very good at the games you play.

Yeah I know what you mean.. I see a lot of people that try to get donations but don't have enough of a fanbase/followers... It will be a interesting thing for me to try out.. never done anything like it before

It's fun but tough to get into... started a channel with the mrs. (link in sig) and had a go, seem to get the best responses from less well-known but very recent titles... we've not uploaded much lately which is mostly due to struggling to find things we want to play. The views are still ticking along still though!

i shall check your channel out bud, Twitch is a good place to start i guess, theres always a lot of viewers on there

It might be just me but when I go looking for a new channel, I'll never choose someone whose face I can see. Some of the best streamers out there are still anonymous. The ones who do show their faces like Professor Broman get on my boobs big time but that might be because they're loud, brash and annoying.
