A couple of weeks ago I have a few bits of trim stolen off my car during the evening - after contacting the police they informed me that there were certain types of car being targeted.
Fast forward to last night and they were back again and this time they basically stripped everything off the car and they could and would have had the bumpers off if the missus hadn't heared them (they were half unscrewed).
When I spoke to the police this time they said 'stealing car parts is epidemic around this area' and suggested I claim on my insurance as 'thats what it's there for'.... anyway I digress slightly - what I'd like to hear is if any of the members on here have experienced the same thing - is it really an 'epidemic' situation or am I just unlucky - the car is an old 06 Ford Fiesta ST, not exactly a prestige motor.
Basically, I'd like to keep it but if the stealing of car trim situation is that bad then I have to get rid of it - the cost to replace everything will run into £100's and there is little point if its going to happen again.

Scotty

Make it not worth their time.. Sleep in your car for a few nights, catch them in the act, and strongly suggest that this is not the car they want to be targeting..

My friend also had his rear valance/skirt stolen from his Fiesta ST 55 plate. Not in the same area though and it was about a year ago. Parked up at a services, went in for about 20mins before carrying on his journey. He didn't notice until he got to his destination to get his stuff out his boot.

If you google it on the net it seems to be a fairly common occurrance with Fiesta's...

This is probably better in the Motors forum.

Some while ago I had an entire engine and transmission stolen from out of my yard. **** knows how they managed to nab it in the 15mins it was left as it took three of us a good hour to manhandle it to the top of the yard. To top the lot, the gate was securely locked which meant they had to manually lift it over a 6' wall.

It's normally that they'll nick the trim off a performance version of a car to transplant on to a crappy one. E.g. Corsa VXR bits to shove on to a 1.2 or whatever.

My borther in law had the lip spoiler taken from his e46 coupe a couple of years back. The damage they did to the boot lid can only make me think that they must have ruined to spoiler in taking it.

Your fiestas bumpers have always been attractive to thieves unfortunately

But on the plus side it's not like all the modern ST's that are getting stolen in 20 seconds thanks to the push button security, obd port theft

This sounds like a plausible reason - scrotes do love to put trim on their 1.2 Fiesta with a 4" exhaust pipe - though who knows why

You'll be able to buy them back off ebay when they've been listed........................ Shifting car parts on ebay must be really easy. "yeah it came off a scraper mate"

Put in in your garage.

I had the wing mirror casings stolen off my Mini whilst I was playing in a football match a couple of years ago. Looked on ebay for replacements and found a seller, selling loads of Mini wing mirrors, coming from exactly the area that the opposition team were from. Suspicions raised...

I bought new parts and sprayed them myself to avoid perpetuating the problem. Most pee'd off I've been in a very long time, though. I notice one of my neighbours is also currently missing their wing mirrors. Must be a major problem.
