I have Samsung s7 edge and my partner has Iphone 7 plus.

Me and my partner have recently started taking a few private pics and videos, i dont like the idea of them being stored on my phone or my google photos folders. Where can i store these pictures and videos in a way we can both access them from our phones at home, obviously we dont want to see them in any of the photo apps either. I have a Synology DS411j NAS, Intel NUC (win7), Dell Laptop (win7).

So would it be wise to store it on my NAS? If so what apps would we use to view the pics and video's? It would also be good if i could set a password too but that is not essential. My partner is not very tech savy so the simpler the better.

Send them to me, I'll store them securely, and I won't look......... honest :D

An encrypted flash drive ? Use Linux to access with no access to local storage or internet? I don't know, depends how paranoid you are.

There should be an owncloud (https://owncloud.org) package for your synology, that is an option. There are iOS & Android clients for accessing.

Thanks for the reply. That sounds like that might work for me, i would need to see if my NAS would run the server, i could not run Emby server (media server) on it because it is really low spec in terms of cpu and ram. 1.2ghz and 128mb ram. Would i be able to run owncloud on my NUC as this is were i have Emby server running but accessing the shared drives on my NAS.

Exactly what I had in mind, We can share them between us two ;)... Is Dropbox a secure way to store?

I would feel safer if it was stored on my own network rather than dropbox or anything similar. Your not getting to see he he.

Im not paranoid but i would just feel more comfortable with it stored locally on my pc or NAS. Im not sure how that would work with what you suggested. I have never used and encrypted drive or Linux.

If spec is an issue, the synology has it's own photo repository software called photostation I believe which will run on pretty much any diskstation, again there are ios and Android clients (DS Photo). I seem to remember it does video too.

Thanks for the heads up, i have installed photostation, it does run but its very slow due to the low spec of my nas, i can access it from my android phone using the app, you can also put a passcode of the app which is good. I need to figure out how to password protect certain folders containing the photos and videos.

Yes indeed but i dont want to be responsible for leading innocent people in to the dark side ha ha. ;)

he he, yes but nothing illegal i was jesting. Im going to Thailand in 3 weeks time, this should be an interesting holiday, my partner is Thai too. I have a thing for Thai women ahem.

I quite like the idea of something similar for just general photos and file. How secure would a system like this be? What about crytolocker etc? It would need to be an externally accessible system although you could use shared keys rather than a p/w..
