GAME launches unattractive new £36 loyalty card scheme.

I guess it might make sense if they offered a discount on the console that was worth more / near enough the cost of membership but otherwise I don't see who would go for it. Suppose Game can only really survive by focusing on those that aren't aware of online prices or just need the game right now.

Can't see they are serious with this.

Popped in our local Swindon store a couple of weeks ago as wife wanted a Xbox One, despite my advice it would be cheaper/better service elsewhere. We were the only customers in the shop, staff seemed apathetic and the sales woman became quite aggressive when we declined the extra warranty and started proclaiming without that the shop accepted no liability and any issues would have to go through M$. Attempts by me to explain the SOGA fell on deaf ears.

They've never been the same since the come back and merger with Gamestation. In fact, the Swindon branch now comes across as a slightly inferior version of Gamestation - as many knick knacks and collectibles as software and the latter consists of a token selection for most formats.

I don't see them lasting much longer.

Rightly so, SOGA has been defunct since 2015.

You know what I mean... Consumer rights then. The point being this to customers parting with a substantial sum of money for a piece of hardware, effectively being told if it breaks "not their problem." If it had been entirely up to me we would have cancelled the sale and walked away at that point.

And on getting home and setting the console up, had a nasty suspicion this was a repackaged return.

Physical game sales and therefore physical shops selling them will be a thing of the past soon. They need to move with the times.

Don't forget most console gamers (who are most gamers) are cretins who don't know how to use computers and therefore the internet ergo cdkey sites.

Game know what they're doing. Milking their sheep and shearing their cows.

MOST

I notice one fail in the original article; you'll make a profit on the 8th game, not the 10th. New releases are never £40 in GAME :p

There isn't a market of cheap "CD keys" for console games. The cheapest way by far to get console titles is on a disc, so there's really no rush for physical media to die-off.

GAME: 'Hey guys, we have a new loyalty scheme!'

Punters: 'OK, what is it?'

GAME: 'We take your money, and then we give you a sharp kick in the nads.'

Punters: 'Er... so where does the loyalty part come in?'

GAME: 'If you remain loyal to us, we'll keep kicking you in the nads.'

Punters: '...'

I've just ordered Mario Kart 8 for just over £40 from base, I could have went and bought it from Game for just under £60. Last thing I bought from them was my Switch, because I got it on launch night and it was the same cost everywhere else anyways, games, no thanks.

Yeah this is so silly, i can totally understand why they need to do it to stay afloat, but surely they must know it wont work. Pay £36 upfront, then buy a game for £49.99 and get 10% back (£4.99) Total upfront cost of first game = £81

Competitor website = £35 to 39.99 Free delivery

Right.

The only item I have purchased in years from Game was a Steam link which was the same price that Steam themselves were selling it at but without the £7.40 delivery charge on top. But buy a game fro game, I don't think so.

I will add that game are a terrible company to deal with and would not replace my broken day one xbox one S (within a week of purchase) . Avoid them for all purchases tbh.

Right.

Not quite right, total upfront cost of game 1 = £86.

You don't get that £5 back in cash, it's credit towards your next game!

For you guys who actually trade console games back in, where do you do this? Digital on console costs more then hard copy and I hate having loads to games sitting there complete, collecting dust.

Not saying game are good, as clearly they are not, but don't seem to have that much choice when trading in.
