GAME launches unattractive new £36 loyalty card scheme.

I will add that game are a terrible company to deal with and would not replace my broken day one xbox one S (within a week of purchase) . Avoid them for all purchases tbh.
I bet there's more to this than just them refusing to replace it. A dead console isn't realistically going to cost Game money. Because they also have agreements in place with manufacturers and distribution centres about this very thing.

Wasn't a dead console, was a broken fan on the console (made loud clicking noise, widely reported on OneS). I've got 2 new ones now and they're fine.

Microsoft replaced no bother.

Can't be long now before digital really starts to take hold.

I sincerely hope not, with games commonly weighing in at 50GB+ (reckon it's not long before 100GB will be common) that would be an absolute nightmare for those of us, through no fault of our own, still stuck with internet speeds from the last decade. I live in the middle of a large city and still don't have access to fibre, nor do I have any date set for when it'll be activated around here. BTw keeps on pushing the date on their website back and have done so for years now.

I'm lucky enough to be old enough to remember when waiting hours for something to download was the norm. So it doesn't bother me very much if a huge game takes 10+ hours to download. I start the download before I leave for work and it's finished when I get back home. Being charged the same price bothers me, though. It's such an obvious massive inflation of profit margins that it feels insulting.

Oh yeah, I have fond memories from the good old days of waiting minutes for a simple image to load let alone downloading a whole game.. :D

Games taking hours to download I don't mind, it's when it creps into days that it really irks me. It's the main reason why I don't buy any games on day of release. I mean, what's the point if I won't be able to play it for a two or three days anyway?

I'll feel a bit sorry when they inevitably go down. Prior to the boom in internet shopping I used to love browsing their pre-owned stuff for any bargains. These days their pricing policy for pre owned seems to be:

"How much is it on ebay for? Yeah whack 25% on top of that? What? I don't care if it has no case and no manual just do it!"

Supermarkets are the best place to buy games on the high street.

They are often a tenner at least cheaper than digital and always cheaper than the likes of Game.

There is no reason for them to be as expensive as they are, they don't seem to understand economics at all.

Taken some months back. This is the entire PC section in my, and OcUK's, local GAME. :p

Who? OcUK's direct rival?

They sell more washing machines and kettles these days than PCs. To be honest, they are probably 90% laptops and tablets.

Aren't all the stores merging into one big Currys/PC World

anyway, I bought my nintendo switch last week from Game. They charged me £10 extra for the privilege but since they were pretty much sold out everywhere I took it. The guy behind the desk spent a good ten minutes explaining the benefits of this deal. He didn't look happy when I said no. It sounded like I was paying a yearly subscription for nothing, plus he tried to sign me up for a monthly insurance plan. Can't understand why they are still in business.

If they do go, it will be one more on the ever growing list. The high streets will be nothing more than food courts, and let's face it....in this country you can set up a food stall and have a mile long line of customers throwing money at you (at least in my city). People have to buy food, even if they're not hungry.

I used to go into GAME to browse older console games, but now "old" is PS3...

GAME are long gone for me. If it closed down today I would care all that much, even for the narcissistic over the top opinionated employees they usually have.

I used to enjoy browsing their budget titles but now all they sell are steam keys which never beat online prices. Shame, was a fun store to visit in a mall full of phone and clothing shops.

The prices in game are laughable. I only go in to buy old XBox 360 games but even then you are probably better off going to CEX, it's never worth buying anything new in there with prices that high.
I think a steam link and controller were the last things I bought, fortunately this was on a day when they were heavily discounted (£17 for the link and £23 for the controller if I remember) and it came with a free steam controller case.

The local GAME has just closed its doors for the last time. Not surprised at all, barely anyone in there, extortionate prices and horrendous staff.

To be fair, one could offset the inflated prices if the service was exceptional but it isn't, I've only ever been served by greasy 'alternative' guys or butch lesbians.

Gamestation used to be awesome though, littered with retro consoles and a personality whereas GAME is fleece after fleece after con after rip-off...

Sad to see them go but at the same time, they deserve to.

Luxury! Back in my day, opening a web page would have taken ~30 minutes if web pages had existed. We had to get up in the morning half an hour before we went to bed and work 29 hours a day just to read a page of text. :)

Four Yorkshiremen joking aside, when I first used the net the maximum download speed was 1200bps (1200 down 75 up or 300/300) and at 1200bps it would take about 30 minutes to download 2MB, which isn't particularly big for a webpage.
